Camp Review
This afternoon, our Year 3 and 4 students arrived back from their 2 night stay at The Portsea Camp. Activities included a large flying fox, archery, a giant swing, high ropes course, hut building and a night campfire, to
name a few. It was a fantastic school camp experience and, for many, their first time away from home. We are so proud of them all for showing such resilience, one of our 3 school values. I would also like to thank all of the staff and parent volunteers who joined us on camp to make this such a positive experience. A special thank you to Courtney Goodman, Carla Gasperini, Fiona Strahl and Geoff Henthorn. Please see some of the photo highlights in this edition of the newsletter.
Book Week 2023
To celebrate Book Week, we have purchased a number of ‘The Children’s Book Council of Australia’ shortlisted books. The CBCA presents annual awards to Australian books of literary merit and for outstanding contribution to Australian children's literature. Next week, we are showcasing some of these books during our literacy lessons across the school. Be sure to ask your child which ones they have explored!
Book Parade 2023
Our annual Book Week Parade, will be held on Friday, 25 August at 9:15am. We encourage all of our students to dress up as their favourite book character. Students will participate in a parade to celebrate their wonderful costumes, parents and friends are invited to the gym to watch the parade.
The ACE Foundation
Thanks to the help of the city of Casey's very own ACE Foundation, more children starting
school in Casey will be given a head start in reading. The Aiding Casey Education (ACE) Foundation led by Cranbourne GP Dr Leon Shapero donates books to our Foundation students each year. This week students from Foundation will have brought home their own copy of 'The Very Hard Book.' We thank the ACE Foundation for their ongoing support of students in Casey schools.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
The Premiers’ Reading Challenge has a few weeks left, and it’s been exciting to see how our students have embraced this reading challenge with enthusiasm. Please don’t forget log on to the PRC portal https://vprc.eduweb.vic.gov.au/home and record your child/ren’s books they’ve read at home. If you would prefer a paper checklist to record your child’s books, please see your child’s classroom teacher.
Principal's Award Recipients
Congratulations to the following students on being awarded the latest Principal's Award!
Movie Day Fundraiser
Thank you for your support, we raised $1,300 for the school from both our Movie Days which will go towards our Year 6 Big Day Out.
Curriculum Day
Monday 28th August is a Curriculum Day, which means no students can attend school.
Staff are involved in professional development activities, where they will be learning about Respectful Relationships, trauma-informed practice and student mental health and wellbeing.
Swimming Lessons
Our swimming lesson program started this week with the Year 5 & 6 students heading off to King Swim. Next week we have Year 1 & 2 students attending from Monday-Thursday. Please remember to name everything!!! It is amazing how many pairs of goggles and towels get unclaimed by the end of the week.
Father's Day Celebrations
Our Father's Day Stall will take place on Thursday 31st August and Friday 1st September. Classes will be allocated a day where they will be given the opportunity to shop for their father, step father, grandfather or any other special person in their lives. The stall is run by parent helpers who are there to help out the children on the day and gifts range from 50c- $5. The stall is not a fundraiser. Prices are set to cover costs only and we do not make a profit.
Save the Date for our Father's Day Picnic to be held on Friday 1st September from 1.15-2:00pm. More information will be sent via Compass closer to the date.
Whole School Production - Zoo Trouble
Every student in our school will be involved in our school production titled "Zoo Trouble". Parents have been notified which costume they will need to organise and which date/s they will be performing on. We are currently working out the ticketing system and pricing. This is a little more complex than previous years, as this will be the first time we are holding the event in our gym. Our performances will be Cast A on the Wednesday 11th of October and Cast B on the Thursday 12th of October. The show will start at 5:30pm on both nights. The day after the production, Friday 13th of October, is a student free day.
