Learning, growing and celebrating together...

Dear Sacred Heart Kew Families,

As we come to the end of Semester One, we share with you your child’s school report for the first half of 2023. There is much to celebrate as many achievements have been made. If I was to compile a ‘collective’ Sacred Heart Kew child Semester One Report, it would be read along the following lines…

The Report for the Semester One, 2023 Sacred Heart Kew child…

COMMENT ON STUDENT LEARNING

The Sacred Heart Kew child should be commended on all that they have achieved in Semester One, 2023. They enter the school grounds and classroom space each day, eager to learn, with a broad smile, positive attitude and many stories to share. They have worked in an enthusiastic manner to achieve many pleasing results. They’re caring students who continually anticipate the needs of their teacher and classmates and are always willing to help out.

They have made the most of all classroom activities and opportunities, and have tried hard to give their best at all times. It has been pleasing to see them take risks with their learning and take such pride in the presentation of their work. They’re friendly and kind class members who interact well with peers both in the classroom and outside on the playground. The Sacred Heart Kew child has enjoyed participating in group and whole class learning, confidently sharing their thoughts and ideas. They consistently apply feedback to improve their work on a range of curriculum areas. They understand that having a go and trying new things can result in positive learning experiences and often encourages their peers to do the same.

When working in small groups, the Sacred Heart Kew child is able to identify what makes a good team member such as sharing ideas and listening to others, and is able to reflect on their contribution to the group task. They identify personal strengths and qualities that contribute to creating a positive learning environment. The Sacred Heart Kew child is an attentive listener and articulate speaker who is able to reflect on their learning. They represented themselves and the school admirably in various ways this semester, at excursions, Inter-school sports and Gala days and at the National War Memorial in Canberra, laying a wreath on behalf of their school and community at the Last Post Ceremony. They even stretched themselves to achieve more than they thought possible, stepping outside their comfort zone on the Giant Swing at Camp.

Some of the other activities and learning opportunities that the Sacred Heart Kew child has excelled in include:

Preparing to write on dotted thirds lined paper, show and share, common word and reading practice, Crocodile and Shark Information Reports, learning about the Zones of Regulation, times tables, participating in Literature Circles, Chinese Zodiac animals, Camberwell Dragons Basketball and AFL clinics, Djembe drum playing, St John’s First Aid Workshop, Indigenous Incursion, learning about the fundamentals of musical theatre and rehearsing for the Lion King Jr roles, creating sun catchers and collages, competing at District Cross Country and Swimming, hypothesising about changes in solids, liquids and gases and creating electric current circuits, Rube Goldberg machines, Balloon cars and Marble runs, understanding and improving their ability to be Cybersafe during the Digital Licence+ program, leading their peers and taking on various responsibilities as Class Captain, Environmental Monitor or Year 6 School leaders.

The Sacred Heart Kew child should be very proud of all their accomplishments this semester. As a school staff it has been a pleasure sharing all of our Sacred Heart Kew children’s learning so far this year and we look forward to supporting them as their learning continues in Semester Two.

FUTURE LEARNING

  • Enjoy a well deserved school holiday break, making use of ‘green time’, rather than screen time
  • Reconnect with friends and family members whom you haven’t seen in a while
  • Spend some time somewhere warm, with either a good book or a fun board game
  • Exercise regularly, walk, run, ride a bike in the great outdoors (with your gloves on)
  • Drink lots of water and eat lots of nutritious and healthy/hearty food
  • Take up a new hobby - learn how to juggle, stargaze at night, buy a yo-yo or kite
  • Keep smiling and continue to be the best person you can possibly be
  • Be back and ready to learn on Monday 10 July

Wishing everyone a relaxing and well deserved school holiday break. See you all next term.

Kind Regards,
