Digitial Technology

Foundation

Foundation has continued to explore tangrams, patterns and different input devices including exploring the VEX 123 robots.

These robots do not require iPads and the Foundation students have been learning the basic principles of coding using the robots touch buttons and commands such as forward, turn left and turn right.

Grade 1/2

The Grade 1/2 students have had a wonderful time exploring VEX 123 robots that have been borrowed from the Wangaratta Digital Hub.

Throughout the term students have used the VEX 123 to help them interpret a narrative where they have to build a dragon pushing machine to save the villagers.

They also have to learn how to use the block coder and sync it to their robot to be able to take their robot to the zoo and visit the animal.

All students have shown excellent problem solving skills along with effective partner sharing.

Grade 3/4

The Grade 3/4 students have enjoyed exploring different codes this term. Throughout the term they have discovered:

Cipher Codes, Morse Code, Braille.

All 3/4 students have also begun exploring block coding using an online program called GROK Academy.

They will continue this program next term with the introductions of input devices known  as Micro:Bits.

You can find out more about GROK Academy below

Grade 5/6

This term the Grade 5/6 students have been exploring their own learning environments. They have been measuring the sound, temperature and light levels in different learning environments throughout the school.

Students then took this collected data and analysed it to determine factors that might make learning more difficult.
