Civics and Citizenship

This term, our Year 3-6 classes are learning about Civics and Citizenship.

In Year 3/4, this involves identifying features of the government and democratic values, identifying how and why decisions are made in communities, and learning about the roles of the local government.

In Year 5/6 students are looking deeper into Australia's government, learning about the three levels of government, identifying how laws are made and changed, and learning about the electoral process.

On Wednesday we began our unit with a visit from the Glen Eira Mayor, Jim Magee.

Cr Jim Magee spoke to the students about what it means to be Mayor and how he supports our local community. Our students asked him some wonderful questions to better understand his role and the role of our local government.
