Principal Report

A message and update from Nathan Gage

Welcome back to another term.

It was so wonderful to see so many enthusiastic faces at the start of this term and we are very excited about the second half of the year. So many things to look forward to this term, with a number of updates across this newsletter.

This term, we welcomed more new staff to the Abers team. It was great to witness how well our community has welcomed these new Education Support staff into our community. Yesh, Louisa and Jamie have hit the ground running and are supporting our students and teachers to get so much more out of their learning and we had George join us as our new IT technician who started last term.  We also had a number of new students join our school this term, with their peers supporting them with a smooth transition into life at Abers and our value of Inclusion on display.

As I mentioned at assembly last week, our playground is a giant step closer to becoming a reality following a meeting I had with the VSBA (Victorian School Building Authority) over the holidays. The VSBA are very excited and supportive of us getting our new playground ASAP. So stay tuned for more exciting news over the coming weeks.

NAPLAN results were released at the start of the term and, as expected, Aberfeldie has performed well again. Despite having a new scoring and strand system, it is clear that our hard work is continuing to pay off. Well done to all the students who participated and we will be publishing some more highlights soon.

Last term we sought expressions of interest for Somers camp, from our 5/6 students. We had an overwhelming response from students. Currently we are awaiting confirmation of place allocation from the camp. Once we receive this, we will work with students on the challenging task of selecting students.

Also this term, our 5/6 students will be off to camp. Plans are well underway and excitement is brewing.

That is just about it from me at this stage, thank you all for helping us start this term so well.
