From the Principal

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to the 2022 school year! Given all that has happened, when we finally commenced the year last week things went quite smoothly. It was great to have smiling faces onsite and see the students navigate new spaces and catch up with friends. A very special welcome to our new Reception students who experienced their first day of school. The girls and boys had a great day and settled in quickly to their new learning environment. The Nature Play Space was a hit!

Welcome to:  REWM:  Jazlyn, Shamsheer,  Riley, Hannah, Avery, Asma, Daniella, Genevieve, Flynn Antonio, Gabriel, Charles, Leigh, Lee, Fatehveer, Nicholas Jayden, James, Jayce, Jaiveer and  Ted  RED:  Aleena, Ella, Aanya, Olivia, Savannah, Jake, Deng,  Aiden, Affan and  Jiaan.

We also give a special welcome to the following students who have joined us this year in other year levels: 1A:  Kavya Thakur and Liam  1B: Yasameen and Ryder  2EN: Emelia and Alfonse  2K: Elizabeth and Leigh  3B:   Shayaan  3PS:  Sienna and Aarav  4B: Tatum and Ethan  4M:  Kavyansh  5CT:  Oliver, Peter and Francis  5M:  Alisa and Snnovie .

I acknowledge and thank all of our staff and students who have patiently and positively engaged in the South Australian hybrid education model which saw some year levels return in Week 1 for face-to-face learning while all other year levels have engaged in remote learning.  Please be assured that our school will continue to follow the advice of SA Health in order to minimise the potential for entry into and transmission of COVID-19 in our school environment.  This means that a number of school activities continue to be postponed.  Specifically, assemblies, masses and other school gatherings and events involving parents/carers onsite have been postponed.  We will go ahead with staff/student gatherings.

The most important control against COVID-19 impacting our school community is for your child to stay home if they are unwell.  If your child displays even mild symptoms associated with COVID-19, please arrange for a PCR test and follow SA Health directions.  Where your child has been confirmed as COVID-19 positive, please contact the school immediately.  If we are notified that a person who attended school subsequently learns they are COVID-19 positive, we will communicate this with classroom contacts in line with the approach approved by SA Health.  If your child is absent from school due to COVID-19 or for any other reason, the school will, as is usual, make best endeavours to support their learning continuity.

It is wonderful to be at the stage where all students can connect with their teachers and peers in person, and we look forward to all students attending school from Monday 14 February, 2022.

As I informed the community last year, we have secured $1.5 million in grant funds to assist in the construction of a new Administration Centre, upgraded Resource Centre and Art/Italian space .  We will be taking out a loan and contributing cash reserves to bring the total outlay to 3 million dollars.  The project is planned to commence in the first half of this year. I will keep you informed as the project progresses.

Yours sincerely

Sean Hill - Principal
