What an amazing opportunity we had to have our Year 8/9 students attend The Summit Outdoor Adventure Park in Trafalgar for a 3 day camp.
After getting settled into their cabins, students met in the lodge to go through some house keeping, then it was time to get out in the park and start the activities. One of the first things each group had to do was decide on a tribe name. No longer were there groups 1, 2, etc. but The Legends, Bucket Heads, The Worms, The Poles, Brainsdale, The Tanks, The Best Team and The Whispers.
The Summit had many different activities that each group had to complete. One activity was Tash's Ladder which was a great challenge faced head-on by so many, the students and staff climbed to a certain point and then stepped out and climb up a ladder.
The Cave was the dark, underground tunnel into the unknown. Each tribe supported and encouraged one another to enter and crawl through the cave. The students were faced with getting out of their comfort zones.
All staff were very impressed and proud to see each student stepping out of their comfort zones and getting comfortable with being uncomfortable.
Many of the activities were focused on teamwork and leadership. The Giant Swing used the strength of the entire tribe to pull each other up to the desired height, all to then release a clip to swing through the air with screams, cheers and waves of laughter all to follow.
The teamwork continued through to the monster course which each team completed twice. The results from the monster course:
The worms 5.46
The Tanks 5.55
The Best Team 6.38
The Whisper 6.50
The Legends 9.23
Bucket Heads took out 3rd with an improvement of 10.50
The Poles took out 2nd with an improvement of 11.30
Winning was Brainsdale who improved by 11.54
Well done to everyone who did the Monster Course.
At the end of camp, each person voted for someone in their tribe who lived by the Five Keys:
Congratulations to Patrick, Cooper, Trey, Cooper, Olivia, Bess, Maddi and Sophie who were the deserved winners from their respective tribes.

Surrounded by my teammates and emerged in sticky, thick, muddy, gunk, I found myself clawing through the sludge eager to reach the end of the course. The malodorous stench permeated and slinked up my nose consuming my thoughts but didn’t tempt me to quit, as I was determined to make it to the end alongside my team.
Years 8 students are creating tool case carriers for an end user of their choice, working from their own designs and specifications. They have practiced a range of woodworking skills putting their knowledge into designing their tool case carriers, using a range of joints to create a solid end product.
The 8/9 Hub are very excited to meet and get to know all the Year 8 students in our 3 week transition period.
All 2022 classes begin on Monday 29th November, this enables you to spend two and a half weeks beginning your Year 8 or Year 9 subjects; this is a fantastic opportunity to get to know your classmates and teachers and establish some really great study habits going into the new year.
