AMEB Results

Congratulations to Rebecca Stephens for completing her Grade 5 AMEB viola examination with a Credit grading. With the difficulties facing the AMEB being able to run face to face exams, Rebecca decided to present a video exam. She needed to record her entire program in one take, submit it to the AMEB and then wait for results. We are all hoping exams will go back to normal next year and students will choose to sit for them. They are a wonderful motivator for practice and give students a qualification on their instrument.

Year 12 Graduation Performance

The Swing band, VCE Ensemble, Year 12 Consort and Senior Band all enjoyed performing at the Year 12 Graduation. It was so exciting to be back performing live after such a long stretch of no performances.

While graduation was a great celebration, it was not without it’s difficulties in the preparation. At about midday on Thursday while the speeches were being rehearsed, the PA system began to cut out before finally coming to a stop. Thanks to James Caddie for saving the day! He was setting up music equipment in the hall at the time and as soon as he established the problem, he found another mixer in the music centre, patched it into the hall system (changing over all the cabling) and had the system up and running again.  This is a great example of a senior student showing initiative and using his specialised skills and knowledge to solve a problem.

James Caddie Accepted into Prestigious Music Program

Congratulations to James Caddie who has been accepted into the Accelerando Program. This is a tailored learning program for passionate students with advanced musical ability on a solo instrument to undertake a year long program working in collaboration with the Melbourne Recital Centre.

Accelerando musicians receive instrumental lessons with leading industry professionals, access world-class concerts, attend master classes, participate in music workshops with high quality resources and technology and perform in an end of year recital in the Melbourne Recital Centre’s Primrose Potter Salon.

This is a free program which is open to Victorian Government Secondary School students from Years 10-12, who experience geographic, financial or other barriers to accessing high quality music experiences. This is something other passionate music students in our program might think about doing in the future.

We wish James all the best for next year and look forward to hearing the results of his work.
