Work placement at Cranes

Bairnsdale Academy members Noah Rutherford and Riley Hood have dipped their toes in the civil construction industry starting work placement at Cranes in Bairnsdale.

Cranes has been established since 1975 in East Gippsland and worked all over the Gippsland region creating employment opportunities for many people, currently providing jobs for over 90 people in the region. The Clontarf Academy was approached by Dave Downie, who is Cranes General Manager of Resource and Assets, about creating some opportunities in the civil construction industry for our academy members, to see if a potential career in that line of work would be of interest.

Both Noah and Riley are involved in separate projects, with Riley working on the Bailey Street upgrade, and Noah has been placed at the new World Courts project on Wallace Street. Noah has really enjoyed the opportunity thus far working with heavy machinery and learning all the safety aspects of the business at the same time. Noah is completing two days a week work placement, and the remaining days of the week studying at school. Riley has the same setup but working on a totally different tasks and hopes to follow in his father’s path, who also works with Cranes and has done for many years, building a strong reputation as a reliable solid employee.

The Bairnsdale Academy looks forward to building a strong working relationship with Cranes, and work together cohesively, ensuring opportunities continue to be provided for academy members in the civil construction space and positive outcomes created in our community.
