Year 3 Report
Term 4 2021
Big congratulations to all Grade 3 students on another amazing year of learning! It was a tough year, but despite the interruptions, all students have continued to grow and develop as learners. The Grade 3 teachers could not be any prouder of all of you and everything you have achieved this year. We hope you all have a safe, relaxing break and we look forward to seeing you all in 2022!
This term in reading, students have spent time looking at procedural texts and memoirs. We identified the different features and looked at how the text type affected the vocabulary used. We also spent some time looking at author's craft. We learned how author's are very deliberate in their word choice and character development in order to create an interesting text for the reader. We then used this understanding to critique different texts. We finished the term reading Fables and identifying the moral or lesson the story was trying to teach us.
In Term 4 writing, Grade 3’s wrote memoirs, procedural and explanation texts. We unpacked the structure and features of each genre, then students wrote their drafts and conferenced with the teacher. After, students had the opportunity to publish their final pieces using Word and enjoyed sharing them with their peers.
This term in maths we started off looking at statistics. We learned about different data displays and how to choose the most appropriate one for displaying our data set. We did some work on Mass and how to measure accurately and also learned about the different features of 3D Shapes. We spent a number of weeks consolidating our Place Value knowledge which has seen the students grow in confidence when working with numbers.
In Inquiry this term we focused on Geography. We identified the different states and territories of Australia and explored the characteristics of different places (such as climate and location). We finished the term investigating how the physical features of Australia make it unique.
