From the Classroom

Grade 4

This week we have dedicated a lot of time to our tie-dye creations! From watching tutorials, designing our tops and creating them, all students have worked diligently and responsibly to help create what they wanted!

I was super proud of the Grade 4’s on Wednesday when they each helped a Foundation student create their own tie-dye outfits. They worked together to show each child how to use the dye correctly and making sure everyone got to use the colours they wanted. Afterwards they got to enjoy a game of Duck, Duck, Goose!

In Numeracy, we have been working on identifying and reading decimals. To prepare for camp students are using the clothing and equipment list to shop for items. They are using the prices to create an expense sheet to learn how much it would cost to go to camp if they had to buy everything on the list!

Colour Fun Run

Introduction

On Tuesday 16th November the school held a Colour Fun Run. All the Toolamba Primary kids ran or walked around the oval getting colours chucked at us, there were different obstacles around such as hopscotch, Jumping over hurdles, balance beam and so on. Mrs Kennedy walked in with a rainbow wig that gave all the kids a laugh to start the great time.

Heaps of people were raising money for new books at our school. We managed to raise a total of $10,558.77 Wow! There were different prizes you could get if you raised money from slime to a motorbike.

As the kids started running the oval the teachers were squirting us in different colours. At the first colour Mrs Bathman and Miss Macoy were throwing purple powder at us, At the second colour Mrs Kennedy and Mrs Kimmorly were on red powder, At the third station Miss Maskell and Miss Pirie were blue, at the fourth Miss Crow and Miss Larcombe were at Yellow and the last Mr Tarrent and Mr Sarkady were at green. We were all covered head to toe in colour.

What a great day! Everyone had fun and enjoyed all the colours. Thanks to all the teachers for making this day happen.

The colour fun run was on Tuesday the 16th of November at 2:00 PM.

Just before lunch the house captain had to fill the soccer field, football field and Even the basketball court with obstacles. First each grade had one lap each to look at the course and to get covered in chalk.  Once every grade had finished one lap, everyone went and it was hard to get chalk on u with 50 people in the way. The funny part is Mrs Kennedy looked like the class clown and Mrs Batman wore white shoes instead of black shoes. It was hard to even do the obstacles because everyone just ploughed through them like there was nothing even there so all you were doing is just running in circles at that point. While it was fun, we did raise $10,558.77 for brand new books.

In my opinion I think we could have had more obstacles, but it was fun for everyone. Teachers were finally allowed to throw things at us legally and the kids got covered in colour.

The Colour Fun Run was held on the school soccer oval, the classes all went through a stack of obstacles while getting covered in powdery colours by the teachers (and Miss Kennedy who had certainly dressed up for the occasion). The school was raising money for new books and overall, we raised $10,558 and 77 cents, some of the money will be going towards the prizes, the colour fun run and the new books. The teachers all had a Blast squirting colour at all the students. Make sure to thank all the house captains for setting up and looking after the younger students, as well as the teachers. We couldn't have done it without them.

Grade 5/6 KT

Do you know that teachers have an inhuman desire to cover their students in multi-coloured chalk? Well, these desires were realized in the Toolamba Primary School Fun Run on the 16th of November. The Teacher mercilessly pelted the poor student with chalk while they made their way through a Monstrous obstacle Course, the students donated money for new books for the school. It was an amazing day except for those students that will be coughing up chalk for months.

Music

It is wonderful to be back in Term 4 doing face to face music again. Students are very keen to create, rehearse and perform music and drama in the classroom. Here is an overview of what has been happening in the classroom:

Foundation: Students are participating in games, learning songs and moving their bodies to music to embed the elements of music such as pitch, tempo, volume and rhythm. They have been playing unpitched instruments.

Grades 1 and 2: Students have been listening to pieces of music and responding, moving their bodies to music and creating drama performances based on images or music.

Grade 3: Students have been listening and responding to music. They are currently working in small groups to create accurate 3-D representations of an orchestra, embedding their understanding of instrument types and families.

Grade 4: Have been completing their song writing unit of work, creating original lyrics to a backing track and using rhyme and metre.

Grade 5 and 6: Have been continuing on with their song writing unit, creating original lyrics. They are able to create a storyboard for a music video, record a scene for a music video based on their song and play instruments as backing for their song.
