Principal's Report

Term 1

As we head towards the end of what is an unusually long term 1, it is great to see some of our school events back on and providing joy and a range of learning experiences for our students. Our Year 11 students have just returned from a 3-day Melbourne City Camp and over the next two weeks we have our Presentation Ball for Year 12 students, our Secondary Sports day, Lower Primary incursion and 3-day Koorie Camp.

A builder will soon be appointed to construct our new buildings at both campuses and works are expected to commence in May. We will have regular reports and photos over the next year so watch this space!

SSG’s on 5th April and Reminder re Vaccination Status

SSG meetings will be held on Tuesday 5th April from 3.15 - 7.00pm and bookings will be available via Compass from Wednesday 29th March. Parents may attend this meeting either on-site at school or via Webex. When deciding whether to attend on-site or via Webex, please note that parents, carers and other adult visitors who enter school buildings must be able to show evidence of two doses of COVID-19 vaccine or have a valid medical exception. Compass Communication with the Class Teacher

I posted this in the previous newsletter but am doing so again as many parents are not following this important advice. An issue with our Compass communication system is that if your child’s teacher is absent from school your email may not be read and responded to. When sending an email to your child’s teacher we request that you do the following

  1. click on ‘Send email to Child’s teachers’
  2. click on ‘Add Recipients’ and include the names of your section leader/s. They will then be able to respond on behalf of the teacher if they are absent.

As a reminder, the leaders are

Lower Primary – Kath Moore

Upper Primary – Rachel Morgan and Maddison Byrne

Secondary 7/8 – Kirsten Coulter and Jessica Fitzsimons

Secondary 9/10 – Chris Malane and Cath Sloley

Secondary 11/12 – Megan Prenc and Jane Stacey

Change to Secondary Uniform Policy

There has been a slight change to the uniform policy for Secondary School students. The previous policy stated that

  • The spray jacket is the only item that can be worn with both the formal and sport uniforms. It can only be worn with the formal uniform when on top of the jumper.

The last sentence has now been removed so the spray jacket can now be worn with the formal uniform without the red jumper underneath.

Concord School – Inclusion Statement & Commitment

Concord School is committed to cultivating a safe and inclusive environment for its students, staff and wider community including those who identify as LGBTIQA+.

As a school community we aim to provide our students a safe space to connect and access resources at Pride Group. Concord School is prepared to make the necessary adjustments for gender diverse students to comfortably access their school environment.

Concord School supports all members of the community for who they are and however they identify and works to promote an environment free from discrimination through our policies and positive, inclusive school culture.

We are proud of our diverse community and have zero tolerance for any form of discrimination, including on the basis of sexuality and gender diversity. Concord School understands that the benefits of visible LGBTIQA+ inclusion extends beyond our students and staff. A school that celebrates diversity benefits everyone.

Smile Squad Coming Soon to Concord School

All children deserve a healthy smile, and the Smile Squad are coming to both campuses of Concord School in July. Smile Squad is the exciting new State Government program that will provide free, high quality dental care to all Victorian public primary and secondary school students. Smile Squad is set to improve the oral health of more than 650,000 children, saving families both time and money, and all without having to leave the school grounds.

Smile Squad dental vans will provide free examinations and treatment including teeth cleaning, fluoride applications, fillings and any other non-cosmetic treatments to make sure our young people have healthy teeth. Smile Squad is staffed by experienced oral health therapists, dental therapists, dental assistants and dentists. They all have extensive experience treating children and a passion for improving their oral health – for life.

Learn more about the Smile Squad by visiting www.smilesquad.vic.gov.au or contact the team at smilesquad@dhsv.org.au.

Dylan is a trusted friend to many and offers to help others in the yard and in the classroom.

Dylan has excelled in his attendance this term and should be commended on being a positive influence who showcases Concord School values on a daily basis.

Well done Dylan on a fantastic start to Year 10!
