Athletics Club

The Athletics Club will be up and running this year with the goal to work on the fitness and skills of students in not only track and field events but also cross country running. All students from Prep to Year 6 are welcome to join us for morning sessions starting from the 2nd and 3rd March. Athletics Club will be on every Wednesday and Thursday for Term 1.

In Term 1, the focus will be on improving endurance and pacing with cross country running. These skills will help your child to be ready for our House Cross Country and potentially our District teams.

Students can meet the teacher running the morning session on the oval at 8:00am. These sessions will not go ahead if rain is projected.

Here is the leaderboard this week of how far our students have run. We hope more of you can make it to the Wednesday and Thursday morning session. Awards will be recognised for students who run the furthest by the end of Term 1.

Well done to these student and hope to see you all this week at Athletics Club!!!!

2022 Knox Division Swimming Championships

11 very capable and talented St Simon's swimmers qualified and made it to the Division Swimming Championships. 10 proud and ecstatic swimmers are now looking forward to the Eastern Regional Competition in a fortnight’s time. It is true to say that we are all so very proud of the results at the Division Championship with both of our freestyle relay teams in the 9/10 year old events coming respectively first and second.

Joel White, who received a special invitation to compete on the day gave a mighty effort and smashed through his events, attaining first place in the 12 year old freestyle and second in his 12 year old backstroke event. Daniela swam brilliantly at the event in both of her individual events, coming second in the 12 year old freestyle stroke and first in her butterfly event. We wish to congratulate Isabella Milne who pushed herself to the limits and surprise herself with third place in breaststroke on the day. In the individual 9/10 year old breaststroke, Taj Ralph swiftly glided through the water with his stroke and came fourth in his event.

Overall, every student was extremely happy with their result and keen to do even better at the next competition or opportunity. It was great to see the parent support of St Simon's that cheered loudly for our school on the day. We wish our team the very best as they move onto the Regional Championships.

Rowville District Inter School Sports

Winter and Summer Sports

This year, we look forward to our students representing our school at Rowville District Winter and Summer Interschool Sports. Our Winter Sport competitions, taking place on Friday 27th May and Friday 10th June, will consist of the following sports: AFL Football, Soccer, Netball, Fully Loaded Tee Ball and Jack Attack Lawn Bowls.

The aim on these days is to increase student engagement and involvement while promoting fundamental skills in each sport, good sportsmanship and teamwork. On both of these scheduled days, students will have the opportunity to represent the school competing against other schools or be part of an in-house competition against their peers.

The selection of teams to represent the school at these competitions will be based on students nominating and trying out for the sport they wish to compete in. All students were able to nominate 2 sports they wish to try out for. Our teachers along with parent coaches will conduct the try-outs and select the students to represent the school at each sport. Students who unfortunately are not selected to represent the school will not miss out. They will be part of an in-house competition run by teachers or coaches to enhance their skill in a sport. Also, it is guaranteed that all Year 5 and 6 students will have the opportunity to represent the school at least once either at the Winter Sports or Summer Sport this year.

We are open to assistance from parents to help with selection of teams and coaching our teams on the day. If you wish to support us with your expertise with coaching a team or know of someone who can coach a team and is available to help out please contact Mr Karl Camerino directly by email. All parents coaches will need to be vaccinated and have a current up to date Working with Children Check.

2022 House Athletics Day- Friday 25th March

A reminder that the House Athletics Day at the Knox Athletics Track will be on Friday 25th March. Further information including a timetable of the day’s events will be sent through an Operoo eform at the end of this week. Please keep an eye out for this permission form on Operoo.

To help encourage team spirit at this event, children are permitted to wear a coloured shirt according to their school house colour with their St Simon's sport shorts. Alternatively, children may wear their full St Simon's Sport Uniform and will be given a coloured wrist band with their house colour.

Parents are most welcome to watch their child/ren partake in track and field events on the day in the designated areas. As this is a COVID Safe school event, all spectators are required to be vaccinated and we ask all spectators to be socially distanced while watching their child/ren. The map of the parent spectating area will be shared on the Operoo form.
