POTTING WITH PURPOSE

'developing young women of integrity and purpose'

After their very first week as Academy girls, our 2022 cohort of Year 7s could be found exploring character strengths and painting terracotta pots with their new friends.

To start the day off, our Year 7 mentor groups identified different types of character strengths they valued in themselves, their friends and communities. These included displaying kindness, courage, leadership, and creativity.  Evidence shows that when we are using our strengths, we are happier, more energised, and feel that what we are doing is purposeful and meaningful. When students know their strengths, they can use them to help them achieve their goals and to approach tasks with a sense of purpose and confidence.

The Year 7s then used these personal strengths to inspire a design for their terracotta pots. These pots signify strengths they have identified in themselves or would like to nourish in the coming year. We encourage all our Year 7s to take these pots home and plant something to indicate the beginning of a new year, and the start of their journey as an Academy girl.
