Circus
There is a buzz in the air as preparation ramps up for our whole school performance on Thursday evening April 7th at Queen of Peace Hall.
Cirque de Porres will feature the extraordinary talents of 260 students performing circus acts from spinning plates to creating human pyramids, walking on sticks to juggling and some pretty amazing gymnastic moves are included as well.
Students will be required to wear all black clothing (t-shirt, leggings, shorts) on the night and can make a statement by having crazy hair. They will be provided a colourful vest to wear at the performance.
Stay tuned for more details about ticket sales but mark the date on your calendar - Thursday 7th April so you don't miss out on the greatest show on Earth!
Visual Arts News from Jan-Maree Visual Art Teacher
Each year the Melbourne Archdiocese holds an Art Show. Schools are invited to submit potential entries for the exhibition. We are pleased to announce that five students from St Martin De Porres have been selected to enter their work in the exhibition, which is being held at the Catholic Leadership Centre during Catholic Education Week.
The students who will have their work on display are Manu, Maanya, Amra, Ajur and Tahlia. The students are pictured below with their artworks.
Unfortunately Tahlia was absent when the photos were taken but we will share a photograph of Tahlia and her sculpture when it is returned to school.
Working With Children Cards
As we begin to return to a new normal, learning is again being extended to include experiences in the community. Tomorrow, our Year One & Two students will travel to CERES in Brunswick East to participate in some environmental workshops and next week our Year Five students will visit Emmanuel College as part of a secondary school immersion experience. Our Year Six students begin participating in inter school sports. Next term our Prep/Year One and Two students will visit the zoo and our Year Three Fours will visit the National Gallery of Victoria.
To ensure the safety of our students when we are off site, and to maximise the learning opportunities, we often require parents to assist teachers and reduce the ratio of adults to students.
To be considered a parent helper to assist by going on an excursion, listening to reading in school or supporting at an interschool sports event, you must have a current Working With Children Card on file at our office. This is a way of ensuring our children are kept safe and we fulfil the highest priority of keeping every student safe.
Working with Children Cards are free for volunteers and can be completed online. Visit https://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/individuals/applicants/how-to-apply-1
and apply for one today. Make sure you list St Martin de Porres as the place you intend to volunteer. When you receive your card, bring it into the office so a copy can be taken and placed on file.
Covid Update requirements for Parent helpers
The latest Catholic School's Operation Guide issued on March 8th 2022 requires any parent helpers who are working directly with students (ie travelling on a bus or in an enclosed or indoor learning space) to be fully vaccinated with 3 vaccinations. Where the parent helpers are not travelling on a bus or are assisting students in outdoor settings (ie interschool sports) double vaccination status is suitable.
Parent helpers are required to show evidence of their vaccination status each time they volunteer.
