Returning Alumni
It has been wonderful to see alumni students returning from their summer holidays raring to go and reorienting back into school, and life with host families or Alumni Boarding. We also welcome new host families for Term 1 and acknowledge the connections established with students' families last year. Being at the airport for their return certainly helped with the transition back to Melbourne life and supporting their journey at Partner Schools.
Although Covid made an impact early in 2022 Alumni Boarding House staff did an amazing job of caring for alumni, liaising with Partner Schools and ensuring alumni were getting on with their school-work. Host families too, were not immune from the impact of the Omicron variant and all must be congratulated for your resilience, caring for alumni and your own family members. Alumni students families send their heartfelt thanks!
Clara, Alison and Tilly have begun their secondary school journey, joining Sam Warrior at Richmond High School.
Trinty Grammar
This year MITS 2021 graduate Zayne joined his Uncle Hurrikane, and Antwan and Philllip at Trinity Grammar. They’ve grown so much during the holiday period and it great to see them back and being supported at Dadirri House by Chris and Vanessa Johnson.
The boys have been hard at work in class and on the sports field.
St. Kevin's College
2022 sees nine young men at St Kevin’s in Years Seven, Nine and 10, spread over the two campuses of Waterford (Year 9) in Richmond and the senior school at Heyington. To have such a large alumni cohort supporting each other through their individual and collective journey is a testament to the
support given by school staff, host families and the wider community.
We were also fortunate to have Trevor Wagilik and John Minjin return for the St Kevin’s Valedictory Dinner. Special shout out to the Dinan and Wright families for their endless love and dedication.
Career Pathways
This year we are working closely with our partners to develop and deliver initiative such as Work Experience programs in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math), Careers Workshops (CV preparation, interviewing skills and more) and Legal rights workshops that discuss a range of legal topics relevant to young people, such as consumer law and social media.
Alumni Boarding House
ABH students have settled back into Melbourne nicely with our new Year 8’s getting to know our older students quickly. We have been lucky enough to have had our weekend activity programs full from the start of the year with Melbourne opening back up.
ABH has experienced great days at the Melbourne Zoo, Melbourne Aquarium, Shopping at the famous Chadstone Shopping Centre, Lawn Bowls, Beach cruises, AFLW matches and BBQ’s.
Around the house the students have demonstrated maturity and respect by following our house rules, completing chores when required and taking on additional responsibilities without hesitation.
Our house is full of laughter with 18 young women now boarding at ABH and settled into partner schools. The ABH team looks forward to
an exciting year ahead and sharing experiences with our mob.
