Scripture says: 'Man does not live on bread alone.'

First Week of Lent

Last Wednesday we celebrated Ash Wednesday through a whole school liturgy led by the Mini Vinnies Leadership Team.

This Sunday we celebrated the First Sunday of Lent where we heard the Word of Jesus' temptation by the devil. Lent is a replication of Jesus Christ's sacrifice and departure into the desert for 40 days.  We associate the 40 days of Lent with the 40 days of Jesus in the desert, hungry and confronted with many resisted temptations.  This Scripture in The New Testament also has links to the Old Testament whereby the Israelites journeyed for forty years through the wilderness, a plight due to their disobedience and unbelief.

Can we resist temptation? Can we demonstrate self-control and good example during difficult times?

As a Catholic school, Lent is an opportunity to highlight Catholic Social Teaching and our Catholic Identity. It is a time where we reflect upon ourselves and grow in our quest to improve the world around us. We do this during Lent by: praying, fasting and almsgiving. A focus we prominently teach our students. As the phrase above says: 'Man does not live on bread alone' but perhaps upon our quest to be good and to do good.

Through these actions, we can nurture and grow and help others to do the same.

Welcome Mini Vinnies

Congratulations and welcome to the 2022 Mini Vinnies Leadership Team: Ava, Rosie, Delvin, Jasskomal, Thomas and Joseph.

These student leaders were commissioned as Mini Vinnies Leaders of our School Community and blessed by Father Stanly at the Mini Vinnies Commissioning Ceremony last week. The students recited a pledge and said a prayer promising to be the best version of themselves, leading the school and our community forward.

They were presented with a certificate and badge commemorating their special role. The Mini Vinnies will be leading a number of events in the school starting with those linked to the Caritas Project Compassion.

Enhancing Catholic School Identity

Every four years, Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Sale engage in a project titled 'Enhancing Catholic School Identity' (ECSI) whereby students, staff, parents and carers are invited to complete a survey to assist schools to better understand how their Catholic identity is expressed in work and practice and to support schools in their future development.

All staff, Year 5 and 6 students and some parents are asked to complete the survey to provide valuable data to be used to make future improvements at our school. Consequently, some families will be invited to complete this survey to assist our work in Catholic Identity. We hope those families chosen to undertake the survey will take the time to complete it, as it provides very valuable information to guide our practice.

A letter will be sent via email this week, to explain about the Year 5 and 6 student completion of the ECSI Survey during school hours. Should you have any questions about the student survey, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please view the attached flyer about the ECSI Project.
