From the Chaplain

At the beginning of the year, the ECC students learn about how God created the earth. We look at what the bible says about what was made on each day.  We eventually come to God making people and how God created us.

Job 33:4 The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

In Year Two, we discussed how God created us uniquely and after we were created, he said ‘we were very good.’  We spoke about how God made us all different, with different talents, different abilities, different interests and different looks.  We were going to watch a song called, ‘I love the way that God made me,’ but the internet was down throughout the school that day.  I asked the students, ‘What do you love about how God made you?’  Here are some of their answers:

  • I love the colour of my skin
  • I love that I am flexible
  • I love that I can do work
  • I love that God gave me Jesus
  • I love that I can dance
  • I love that I can ride a motorbike

I was thinking to myself how younger people are usually so happy and content with who they are.  Everyone in the class, very enthusiastically put their hand up to say what they love about themselves.  If I asked the same question to the high school students or even the adults here, I bet they would not be so quick to give me an answer.  Why is it, when we are older, we sometimes lose that inner confidence and become less content and self-assured about who we are, what we are and the things we can do?

Ephesians 2:10 says, ‘For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.’

This verse says we are all God’s masterpiece. Before we were born God had great plans for us.  We are all important and needed in this world. What do you love about how God made you?
