International Women’s Day

On Tuesday morning we celebrated International Women’s Day via Teams, with a panel of women, led by past School Captain, Katie McAllister (2013).  Joined by Grammar alumni, Matilda Lloyd (2015) and Rekisha Satour (2016), Katie led a discussion which focused on their experiences in breaking the bias, both at school and since leaving Grammar.   Each of these extraordinary young women spoke from the heart about how they have forged their own paths, overcoming bias along the way.

Their thought-provoking insights reminded us all that there is much we can do to improve the experience for young women (and all young people) both here at school and within our own communities. Some of the wisdom that resonated with me was shared by Rekisha who reminded us to understand who isn’t in the room, to question why they aren’t there and consider what they would say if they were.  I also loved the reminder that we should get rid of the labels other people put on us.  Lastly came a reminder about being fully involved in your community, which I hope we can all take on board.  Sincere thanks to the panelists and our guests for helping us to celebrate a special day.

Entry road upgrade

As you know, we have commenced a road upgrade at the main entrance to the school.  Phase 2 of this project includes widening the main entrance, changing the layout of the road slightly and improving the functionality of the road.  In order to ensure that this work is complete for the start of Term Two, we will be commencing these works in the last week of this term.

The main entrance road will be closed for the last week of term.  This will require changes to the way we access the campus.  Please use the Multi-Purpose Sport Complex (Gym) entrance.  The changes are as follows:

  • The Gym carpark (usually a set down and pick up and parking zone) will be used for bus pick up and drop off.  This area will be closed to cars.
  • Parking for ECC parents will be in the existing staff parking adjacent to the Middle School play area with the climbing ‘spider’ and the bridge/leaf deck.
  • Parking for all other parents will be in the existing student parking area.
  • Student parking will be moved and students advised of the new area.
  • Signage will be installed to indicate these changes.

It is vital we all adhere to the instructions about set down and pick zones and ensuring access ways are kept clear.  We want to accommodate all drivers and need your support and patience to ensure safe drop off and pick up for students.  More information will be provided in coming weeks.
