Principal's Report

Key dates for Term 1

Saturday 19 Mar           Warrandyte Festival

Warrandyte Festival

The Warrandyte Festival is scheduled for Friday 18th and Saturday 19th of March 2022 with the theme "Warrandyte: Together Again".

It's exciting to feel the buzz of preparing for Warrandyte Festival again! All of our students are working on a range of artworks to support this year's float and parade entry. Our Preps have started making beautiful flowers and were busy at work when I dropped in to visit.

The Andersons Creek Primary School stall will be running on the Saturday. Thank you to the families who have volunteered their time to sell at the stall. You will receive further communications from your Class Representative in the coming days. Be sure to take a read of Jimmy's article under the School Council President's tab in our weekly newsletter.

We encourage all of our students to attend the parade and enjoy the fun of the festival.

Details regarding meeting times and procedures for the parade will be communicated closer to the date.

Our School Values

Following a few years of Covid I have noted that we could all do with a refresher and reminder of the Andersons Creek Primary school values. Our teachers are working through these with their classes in various ways. I ask for your support in reinforcing these school values through discussions at home.

Responsibility

We are responsible for our own behaviours.

As part of being responsible, we need to respect and show concern for the wellbeing of others.

Some of our responsibilities include:

  • To follow the rules at home, at school and in the community – after all they are for our safety and to protect our rights and the rights of others
  • To stand up for our rights and the rights of others as much as we can
  • To be the best person we can be
  • To take care of our own belongings and respect the belongings of others
  • To learn as well as we can
  • To care about others who are not as strong in some ways as we are

Honesty

We don’t say things about others that aren’t true.

We admit to our actions even if we may get into trouble.

We explain how a situation really happened.

We act in a way that we know is the right thing to do.

We do the right thing even if no one else is looking.

Respect

We listen to the views of others and acknowledge different opinions.

We treat others with courtesy, tolerance, kindness and compassion.

We take responsibility for our own learning.

We treat all members of the school community equitably.

We model respect for equipment and the environment.

We value the role of all individuals in our teams and respect their right to express a point of view.

Optimism

We motivate others to do their best.

We talk to others in a positive way and provide constructive feedback.

We build confidence in ourselves and others.

We celebrate everyone’s successes.

We view failure as being temporary, able to overcome and something to work towards.

We approach new tasks with a positive attitude.

The wonderful things you see...

As we have come back together as a school community, we continue to re-establish our strong classroom routines, build stamina for a day's learning and brush up on our 'getting along' skills. This has been easier for some students than others.

We continue to focus on revisiting the school values and using restorative practices and other targeted strategies to support our students.

Our Year 6 students have met with their Prep Buddies as have our Year 5 students with their Year 1 Buddies. Lots of happy smiles and cooperative play in the yard to be seen.

It's always touching to see when students help each other out, not because they've been asked to but simply because they see someone is in need of assistance. Earlier in the week Sonny in Prep had taken a pretty big tumble running up the pathway and Anna Yr 3 quickly came to his assistance, comforting him as she brought him up to the office.

At Library lunchtime Archie read a book to some of our Preps. They were totally engrossed in the book he was reading and they enjoyed a calm literature filled lunch time.

Serving counter sales at recess today I had a junior student attempt to buy a drink with a toy gold coin. A senior student was by his side and gently explained that it was not real money and that it was ok not to get anything today. He added... Come back next week with real money and then you can get something. The young child happily closed his wallet and went off to play.
