Learning & Innovation

“Learning is not attained by chance. It must be sought for with ardour and attended with diligence.”  Abigail Adams

Learning and Innovation

“The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice.” Brian Herbert

As Term 1 concludes we would like to take this opportunity to commend students on all that they have accomplished in what has been a rewarding and at times challenging term.  As the April holidays commence, we move to the end of the Lenten season and to the most significant point in the Christian calendar, we are reminded of the hope that underpins the foundation and ongoing faith life of the College. Hope is always forward looking, and we encourage students no matter how they approached Term 1 and the success they have had, to reflect on their resilience and commitment to their learning. This reflection will allow students to acknowledge how they have approached learning so far this year but perhaps also identify a need to apply themselves more to achieve their personal best. It is important that the girls take a break and recharge after the term, to ensure they return reinvigorated to build on all that they have achieved and learnt in Term 1.

As our Year 12 students approach their final two terms of classes, I would like to encourage them to continue with their study and maintain the determination and resilience they displayed throughout Term 1. I would also like to encourage our Year 12 students to engage with the plethora of resources that are available to them as they complete their HSC journey:

HSC Study Lab

HSC Study Lab has been created at Macquarie University to support students in Years 11 and 12. Courses are based on the NSW syllabus and delivered by expert teachers. The HSC Study Lab can assist with understanding difficult concepts, preparing for assessments, homework and exam revision.

The following subjects are available:

  • Year 11 and Year 12 Biology
  • Year 11 and Year 12 Business Studies
  • Year 11 and Year 12 Chemistry
  • Year 11 and Year 12 Physics.

Further information regarding the HSC Study Lab can be found by visiting their website.

ATAR Notes - Year 10 - 12 Online Lectures

Between April 11-14, ATAR Notes is running free HSC online lectures. There is no cost to register.

Students can register for as many subjects as they like via the ATAR Notes Lectures website

The lectures are designed to assist students with additional support for their subjects through the April school holidays. The sessions are delivered by high-achieving recent graduates and Lecture recordings are available to re-watch at any time, and students can download the slides to aid revision.

NAPLAN

Year 7 and Year 9 students will be sitting for the NAPLAN assessments in Week 3, 10 to 12 May. NAPLAN is an annual assessment which assesses fundamental skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy.

Students will have an alternate timetable during the NAPLAN testing period and this will be communicated at the start of Term 2. The schedule as it currently stands for the NAPLAN testing is as follows:

10 May

Reading Test

11 May

Writing Test

12 May

Language Conventions

Numeracy

In readiness for the tests we ask that you ensure your daughter:

  • has earphones/ headphones to access the audio features of the tests
  • has a fully charged laptop
  • is punctual to school
  • ensures the NAPLAN secure browser is correctly downloaded to her laptop
  • has a pen or pencil for planning and working out

Year 10 - Stage 6 Subject Selection

In Term 2, our Year 10 students will commence the Stage 6 Subject Selection process. The process will commence with a Year 10 Parent Evening via zoom on Monday 9 May.

As we prepare for subject selection it is important to note that one of the key aspects of your daughter’s success will be choosing the best pathway and courses that will ultimately set her up for success. We strongly encourage our Year 10 students and their parents/guardians to discuss subject preferences carefully. Our experience over many years suggests that parents/guardians and students who work together to achieve goals in schooling find the Higher School Certificate more manageable. Having clearly defined goals, which your daughter can measure, will allow her to take pride in accomplishing her targets.

Further details regarding the subject selection process will be communicated in early Term 2.

We wish all families a safe holiday and all the joy that Easter Sunday brings.
