Year Adviser News

Amyleigh Elliot - Year 7 Year Adviser

2022 has started off as a very exciting and busy time for Year 7 students, as they have settled into their classes of 7K, 7M, 7U and 7W. The past few weeks have been enjoyable for myself and Mr Sondaar, their assistant year advisor. We have watched so many students make new friends and take part in their classes with so much enthusiasm and pride. Mr Sondaar and I have enjoyed getting to know our Year 7 students and finding out about all their wonderful qualities and what makes them unique.

The term began with four days of introductory activities which all Year 7 students participated in, these helped them learn about their new school, classes, teachers and each other. Throughout the lessons Year 7 students were equipped with a range of vital skills which will help them to thrive at Evans High School. These skills included understanding how to use their timetables, how to submit assessment tasks and how to work as part of a team through some fun team-building activities.

Here are some photos from the "Build a Tower" team building activity and the "Sponge Bucket" team game, both of which required them to be critical thinkers, problem solvers and most importantly team players. The students had a blast and so did the teachers.

In addition to all the introductory activities, Year 7 students have engaged in a number of programs across the school including their Best Start Assessment, school sport and a number of students from Year 7 represented their cohort at the recent swimming carnival, all walking away with ribbons.

Mr Sondaar and I are proud of Year 7 and how well they have transitioned from primary school to high school. 2022 is looking like it will be a very exciting year for Year 7.

Gemma Hanlon - Year 9 Year Adviser

Year 9 has welcomed the new year and new school term with great enthusiasm as they jumped straight into their newly selected electives. It has been wonderful seeing how well the students in Year 9 have adjusted to their elective classes and subjects.

In week 3 of the term, the students participated in the annual school swimming carnival. Congratulations to Tegan, Lachlan and Varun for participating and earning themselves ribbons and points for their house.

I'd like to also welcome Mr Kumar, who is our new Assistant Year Adviser for 2022. He has already worked with several year 9 students since starting at Evans and is located in the EALLS staffroom. I'm looking forward to working alongside Mr Kumar this year and we are both extremely excited to see our Year 9 cohort strive for greatness this year.

Mr Murphy - Year 11 Year Adviser

Students of the class of 2023 have hit the ground running with their senior studies. Students are already experiencing success and I am hearing great things from teachers across both the theory and practical subjects, and am looking forward to seeing a continued level of effort from all students.

Parents and carers are reminded that if students require any additional uniform items, that the Uniform Shop is open before school on Tuesday and Thursday. Parents are also encouraged to keep an eye on our school social media platforms. With the eventual easing of Covid restrictions, Evans will be looking to warmly welcome our community back into our school for all manner of events, and we would love to see each and every one of you.

I look forward to hearing from you as I work with your child/ward over the next two years of their school life.
