Assistant Principal Report

It brought immense joy to all who attended the 'Class of 2022', year 12 dinner at the Wangaratta Turf Club last Friday night. The atmosphere was exciting, which saw our school community come together for the first time since 2019. The evening gave everyone the opportunity to sit down and have a meal together, sharing stories and the journeys that our Year 12 students have had.

Firstly, this wonderful event took care and preparation to plan and implement. A huge thank you to Cate West and Rebecca Younger, and the staff that helped to ensure this night was a successful one for our students and their families. Also, to our Year 12 leaders Meg Whatley and Gemma Hunter for their wonderful inspirational speeches and the running of the evening.

The night kicked off with a fantastic meal, followed by Ms Hunter and Ms Whatley’s inspiring speech. It gained more momentum as our Executive Principal, Mr David Armstrong addressed the audience with his aspiring and uplifting words that left us all with something to aspire too. This followed with our Head Prefects, Alannah Baguley and Stephanie Grant as they have for the last 2 years in their prefect roles deliver a flawless speech that was very humbling.

Once the formalities were over, it was time for dancing and to enjoy the rest of the night. It was fantastic to witness so many on the dance floor, teachers, parents/carers, and students together dancing to the band, led by Scott Solimo and past students, it was such a highlight.

Lastly, to our class of 2022 it really resonated with me when Stephanie spoke about your time at Wangaratta High School and the challenges you faced. You were the first to use our Flexible Learning Centre, you saw 5 different Principals and the 2 years of lock downs with remote learning.

From the Wangaratta High School family, we truly commend you for all you have committed to during your time here. You are all inspirational/resilient young people. Be proud of your achievements and be confident within yourselves with what challenges you may face. Class of 2022, you will be remembered for many reasons but most of all your persistence, resilience, and empathy and for that, we wish you all the best for the future.

Have a great weekend everyone,

John Paola
