Chaplain's Corner 2023

Hello MPS Family

My name is Tammy Bija the School Chaplain.  I am in School Tuesday and Friday.  To introduce myself to those families that are new to MPS.  This is my 4th year at Marangaroo Primary School!    I am a Mum of 3 boys who are 15,13 and 11.  My oldest boys are Autistic and attend main steam schooling.  I have a passion for families, children and building relationships with the whole school Community.

I support in many different ways in the school but my main roles are to co-ordinate the breakfast program, Kids Who Care (peer playground support) and assist students with social and emotional wellbeing, usually through one on one support. My passions are my family, sunsets, walking, coffee with friends, hearing and learning the stories of those around me.

What is a Chaplain? Chaplains support the social, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the school community while demonstrating our values of respect, compassion, and service. Chaplains focus on the well-being of the school community to support Staff to make a real difference in the educational outcomes of students.

Have you met our AIEO, Roschell Watkin? I have had the absolute privilege of getting to know Roschell over the last 6 months.

Roschell works as both AIEO and Special Needs EA at MPS.  At our Professional Learning at the beginning of the year Roschell shared on the Aboriginal framework and her passion to build relationships with Community.  I think this is definitely where our shared passion is for this School.

What is an AIEO? The role of the Aboriginal Islander Education Officers (AIEO) is to help promote inclusive practices within the school and build positive participation, communication and interactions between staff, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, their parents and families and the local Aboriginal community.
