Term 4

Term 4 has been a busy and challenging one. We have been without our Junior Girls' Boarding Supervisor due to illness, and along with other staff absence this has created some disruption. The weather also has not seen the usual warm to hot November/ December conditions for swimming. Our Year 12's left us and the new Year 12's are already underway working very hard in preparation for the 2023 HSC. MEBS held a Tumut Meet and Greet at the Tumut Golf Club.

New Year 7 Sleepover

MEBS welcomed new 2023 Year 7 students for their sleepover night. The students and their parents were welcomed in Meeting Space 2 and then escorted to their overnight rooms by Boarding Staff and the Boarding Captains. The new boarders were treated to afternoon tea, games, and activities followed by a welcome dinner. The Boarding Captains and buddies assisted them with getting to school after breakfast. We look forward to catching up with them all again on Sunday 29 January.

Year 12 Student Leadership Day at CSU

Our Mount Erin Boarding Student House Captains joined College Captains and Boarding House Captains from Marian College, Saint Francis De Sales, Xavier College, Mater Dei Catholic College, and Kildare Catholic College for an inaugural student leadership day held at Charles Sturt University. This was an excellent opportunity to look at authentic leadership and planning for 2023. A big thank you to all concerned especially Dr. Andrew Watson and his team and Bishop Mark for his presentation and the celebration of Mass on the day.

Boarding Leaders Meeting

An informal meeting was held in Leeton in Week 9 consisting of Heads of Boarding from Saint Francis De Sales - Leeton, Saint Paul's Walla Walla, and Mount Erin Boarding to discuss ways in which "local" Boarding Schools could interact, including Leadership meetings of the Heads, student leadership meetings, sporting events, and staff professional development. There will be an inaugural meeting held in the first term of 2023 which also includes Scots- Albury, Yanco Agricultural College, and Redbend College to begin the process. This an exciting and important development for Boarding in the Riverina and its surrounds.

Christmas Dinner/ Christmas Lights

Traditions in Boarding Schools are important and something to look forward to. The MEBS Christmas Dinner and lights tour are two traditions in place which are enjoyed by the MEBS Boarders to mark the end of term/ end of the year as we head into the Festive Season.

A big thank you to all involved.

Changes for 2023.

There were earlier announcements in the year from CEDWW regarding changes to MEBS from 2023.

Included in those changes were the role of the Leader of Boarding, now called the Head of Boarding, and the governance structure which will see an operational committee and a Boarding Council. The council will have parent representation, one from each College.

Nominations and the process will be communicated to the Boarding Community asap.

Another change will be the way in which Boarding students from Kildare will order and receive their lunches from 2023. Similar to Mater Dei, Kildare Boarders will have their lunches provided by the College Cafeteria after placing an order online.
