News from the Chicken Coop

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

A huge thank you to the Borloz, Coates, Hale, Welsh, Anderson, Carroll & Kerwin families who took such wonderful care of St John’s chickens over the holidays. We hope you got lots of eggs in return for feeding the chickens and keeping their coop super clean. Thanks again!

Volunteers needed

Each weekend and over the school holidays, school families volunteer to go on the chicken duty roster to look after our school chickens. Chicken Duty involves letting the chooks out of their coop in the mornings, putting them away in the evenings and checking that they have enough water and food each day. Duty families get to keep all the yummy eggs that they collect over the weekend. An information sheet will be provided with all the details, prior to your duty.

Please email Mel at mkerwin@sjmitcham.catholic.edu.au   with your preferred dates if you are interested in being added to the roster. First in, first choice of dates!

Our 2023 Environment Leaders

Hi everyone, we are your new Environment Leaders for 2023. Our names are Lachie, Harmony and Ellie. We are so happy to be your new leaders and we are looking forward to taking care of our school chickens and making sure St John’s environment is safe and clean for all students and staff. We hope to cut down on litter in the school yard and improve our composting program. We have lots of ideas and we can’t wait to share them with you. We look forward to seeing the improvements in our school environment with your help.

Composting

At St John's we encourage our students to put fruit and vegetable scraps into the compost bins. We also have worm farms and collect the worm juice for our gardens. We are attempting to be more waste-wise by limiting the packaging brought to school.

Thanks for your support!
