From the Leadership Team

Rob French, Principal

As a school community, we've enjoyed a wonderful Term 1 and have launched off our Centenary year in style.

A special morning tea earlier in the term recognised our founders, former Board members, alumni and long-serving staff as we paid tribute to all who've gone before us and who've helped to build the culture and traditions of our School.

I thoroughly enjoyed welcoming new and current families at our parent morning teas, the ELC and Junior School picnic and the Senior School drinks. These events offer opportunities for families to connect not only at School, but also beyond the school gates. Thank you to our parent volunteers who contributed to welcoming our community back for 2023.

The Centenary Fair two weeks ago proved to be a magnificent community event in perfect autumn conditions! I thank our amazing PFA, parent and student volunteers and our tireless staff, who all worked together to make it such a roaring success.  With several major events in the months ahead to mark our milestone, it promises to be a memorable year in the life of the School.

On the sporting fields, we've had several teams make it through to EISM grand finals. It has been pleasing to see our Year 7s entering the spirit of Kilvington sport with admirable enthusiasm. We've also enjoyed Senior School House Swimming and Athletics as well as Junior School House Cross Country.

We recorded a very impressive fifth out of 21 schools at the EISM Swimming Championships at MSAC and it's wonderful to note that four of our students will be swimming at the National Championships on the Gold Coast over the holidays.

In the Performing Arts, rehearsals for our production of Oliver have continued throughout the term in readiness for the show to hit the stage in May. The term culminated with a superb display of music and dance at the Jazz Cabaret Concert last week. I know many of us are excited about our Centenary Concert at Hamer Hall in Term 3 and more details will be made available about this next term.

Our students have also been involved in a range of co-curricular activities, from debating, robotics, writing and chess to fitness, dance and the Kelpies running group, just to name a few.

Other highlights of this term include our Women’s Day Breakfast, as well as Harmony Day, which also incorporated Cut for a Cause and a lunchtime ‘Battle of the Bands’ spectacular.

Such days are always great celebrations of our community and see much-needed funds raised for a range of international and local causes.

It's been wonderful to see our full program in action and to see our students involved in a wide variety of activities. Such experiences help students to develop essential skills beyond the classroom and definitely provide them with some of their richest school memories.

It's also pleasing to note the progress of our new STEAM and Library Centre throughout the term. We're aiming to have full access to the Centre by the end of next term and plan to hold an official opening later on in the year.  We've had an impressive response to our Steam Centre Naming Competition. Entries are being taken until May 12 so please feel free to join the competition here!

Finally, I must congratulate our youngest students - those in Prep and the ELC - for adapting so superbly to their new routines and making a great start to their Kilvington journeys. No doubt, they'll be feeling a little tired at this stage of the term and can look forward to a very well-deserved holiday.

I thank all our families for a highly successful term and wish everyone a safe and relaxing Easter break. Term 2 promises to be just as good and I look forward to welcoming everyone back on April 24.
