Religious Education Update
Hannah Birchall | Religious Education Coordinator
A warm welcome back to the new school year at St Aidan’s. I hope everyone had a restful break with family and friends. I look forward to continuing in the role of Religious Education Coordinator in 2023 and I warmly welcome all new families to our special community.
A few important people to note:
Sacramental Coordinator - Helen Shaw
Family Educator - Mary Dillion Pollinger
Parish Priest - Father Allan Casquejo
Priest - Fr Rafael Silva Galicia
St Aidan’s works closely with the Holy Family Parish to offer programs for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Sacrament of Eucharist and the Sacrament of Confirmation. Students in Year 3 make their First Reconciliation and their First Holy Communion, and students in Year 6 make their Confirmation. All students will be prepared for the sacraments by their classroom teacher, however, they need to register with the parish by completing this Google Form. Thank you to those families that have already completed their registration. All students will be prepared for the sacraments by their classroom teacher, however, they need to register with the parish - through the above Google Form.
If you are unsure whether or not your child will be making any of these sacraments, please do not hesitate to email myself or the Holy Family priests.
The parish contact details are: holyfamilymaroubra@outlook.com and 9349 1198.
Holy Family Parish asks that students who are making their First Holy Communion later in the year will need to present their child to the parish in Term One.
Please find the following details for First Reconciliation this term:
At the end of week 5 each term, St Aidan’s comes together for Family Mass at the Holy Family Church with morning tea to follow. This term we will come together on Sunday 5 March at 9:30 am. All families and friends are welcome in this celebration.
Shrove Tuesday will take place on Tuesday 21 February. This is a traditional feast day that is celebrated before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Pancakes are eaten on this day as they were seen as a special indulgence before the 40 days of fasting during Lent.
All students at St Aidan’s will be given the pikelets for morning tea to celebrate this special day. If you do not wish for your child to have a pikelet, please let your child’s class teacher know or email the school office. Students are welcome to bring a gold coin donation that will be collected for Project Compassion.
Ms Mary Dillon Pollinger will be in contact soon to organise parent volunteers to help on Shrove Tuesday with the pikelets.
This year Ash Wednesday is on the 22nd of February. It is the first day of Lent and is the season leading to Easter. Students in Years 3 to 6 will attend Mass at Holy Family Church at 9:10 am, while students in Kindy to Year 2 will come together for a small liturgy in the classroom. Parents are warmly welcome to join the primary students at Mass at 9:10 am or the infants liturgy at 10:40 am.
Year 4 has been learning about the story of Moses, they chose different materials to represent and reflect on the story.
Have a look at these amazing efforts by Mailys, Seth, Millie and Liam.
I look forward to working with you all in 2023.
Warm regards,
Hannah Birchall
