Sacrament of Confirmation
Last night some of our Year 6 students and a group of past Holy Saviour students celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation at Holy Saviour church.
Congratulations to all the the candidates, especially our Year 6s:
(*Eva Dell'Orso will celebrate her Confirmation later in the year due to illness on the day)
The Sacrament of Confirmation is the second of the three sacraments of Christian initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist).
We first receive the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Baptism; these gifts are strengthened in the Sacrament of Confirmation, which is one of the reasons why the Catholic Church teaches that confirmation is properly viewed as the completion of baptism. We are reminded of our participation in the ministry and mission of Jesus, and strengthened to follow Jesus more closely.
The Sacrament of Confirmation consists of the renewal of baptismal promises and the laying on of hands and anointing with the oil of Chrism. The anointing of the candidate is a sign of confirming the gift of the Spirit, and calling the candidates to use these gifts to become involved in the life and mission of the community.
The seven gifts of the Spirit are Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel (Right Judgement), Fortitude (Courage), Piety (Reverence), Fear of the Lord ( Wonder and Awe).
