Grade Three

Wow! It’s term 3!

So far, we have been having a wonderful time as we learn together. We started the term with our athletics carnival which was so much fun. It was cold but everyone enjoyed the events and the atmosphere of the day.

English

In English our students have been focusing on reading and writing activities with an instructional or procedural focus. It has been fun discovering how to write explicit instructions for several everyday tasks. The students have been provided with a weekly opportunity to use their writers’ notebooks and to choose the style of writing they prefer. Students have continued working through the writing process and have been able to publish their texts. Reading remains a huge focus and we have ensured that we have daily opportunities for students to independently read and also out loud read to a buddy.

Mathematics

In mathematics students have enjoyed our daily hands-on activities and games which assist to improve their mental computation skills. We started the term with a fantastic MINIONS maths unit. It was so much fun to discover more about shapes and area as we completed the tasks together. We have also focused on symmetry and time.

Integrated

This term our unit focus is Discovery. We have a huge science focus which has been exciting and thought provoking. So far, we have investigated forces and gravity! We have completed mini experiments and the teachers have been thrilled with the curiosity and enthusiasm that has been displayed in each classroom.

Friends program

This term we began a friendship program which is designed to assist our students to develop a ‘toolbelt’ full of strategies and ideas as they learn to play co-operatively. Every grade has attended at least three of these sessions and it has been pleasing to see how open our students are to learn to problem solve and to respect themselves and their friends.

All the teachers would like to thank parents and families once again for their ongoing support throughout this term.
