Chess Program at SCC – Weekly Classes

Chess Program at SCC – Weekly Classes  (Repeat)

Southern Christian College is keen to run Primary and Secondary Chess Programs during a lunchtime at the College. These programs will be facilitated by external provider Black Square Chess and would include teaching students about movement of pieces, check and checkmate, openings, and endgame tactics. Students would also have an opportunity to participate in interschool tournaments.

There are many reasons that engaging in chess is beneficial to developing minds, including the following:

  • Improves Maths and Reading Skills
  • Improves critical thinking skills
  • Improves memory
  • Improves social skills
  • Improves concentration
  • Improves strategical thinking skills
  • Improves decision making skills
  • Teaches patience

The cost to families would be between $5-$7 per session, depending on the amount of students interested. Payment would be made via the Black Square Chess website.
