Grade 10 RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness)

On Friday 12 August all Grade 10 students will take part in a 1-day Rotary Youth Driver Awareness workshop based at the Hobart Showgrounds.

RYDA is a community road safety initiative delivering practical road safety information, targeting attitude and awareness of young drivers and passengers. The program is facilitated in partnership with Rotary, presented by professionals and supported by corporate sponsors. The Program about road safety is directed towards young people as they approach the period in their life when they start driving a car and ride as a passenger in a car driven by one of their peers.

The program focuses on attitude and awareness with the aim of making the students better people on the road. Presenters include Road Safety experts, driving instructors, Police, recovering survivors of road crashes and drug and alcohol educators.

Secondary Assembly

At our Secondary Assembly yesterday, Amelie Wigg recited an interesting fact that Tasmania is the world's 26th largest island, and half of the land is made up of world heritage area, national parks and forest and marine reserves. What a beautiful state we live in.

Mrs Ambrose introduced our Grade 7 Netball coach, Mrs Kylie Brooks and the Grade 7 SCC Netball team that took part in the SSATIS netball games. They made it all way to the finals, and we are so proud of you all!

SCC has had many high school students take part in a National Geography competition and they all did a brilliant job. Angus Richardson came first in Tasmania and in the top 1% of Australia's competitors. Well done to all who took part and special congratulations to Angus Richardson!

Mrs Brandis-Gray and her Japanese students commemorated the anniversary of Hiroshima Day on the 6 August. It has been 77 years since a single atomic bomb reduced the city of Hiroshima to dust. It has become a Japanese tradition to fold 1000 paper cranes to make your dreams and wishes come true. Our Japanese students attempted to make 1000 of these paper cranes, and they were visible for all to see on the stage today during our Secondary Assembly.

Mrs Bennett addressed our students, and her message was that it is important that we understand that school does not only educate students, but it equips students on how to be empathetic and how to motivate and encourage other people. Mrs Bennett went on to say that we don't only learn in the classroom, but within the playground, on the sports field and when working as a team and taking risks. These are all important life-long skills that we learn when we engage and take part. Mrs Bennett has been impressed by the learning that she has seen at her time at SCC and is enjoying her interactions with students in the classroom.

TCE News for Years 10-12

Year 12 Psychology Investigative Project (Repeat)

The Year 12 Psychology students are working on their Investigative Project from Weeks 3-7 this term. Their report is accessed externally and is a component of their final result. As part of the project, the Year 12 Psychology students will need participants who may include students from the secondary school. They will need to collect 'observational or experimental' data as evidence and conduct controlled experiments / interviews / questionnaires or similar activities with a range of participants.

The Year 12 Psychology students are required to inform the participants of the task, ask permission, collect a signed permission form, and make sure that a participant is agreeable to the activity at the time. All students involved require parental permission for the activity.

If parents have any questions, please contact Mrs Schuth. (veronica.schuth@scc.tas.edu.au)
