EMC Alumni

On Friday the 22nd of July, we were introduced to Kassie Boorer, a former EMC student in an assembly with all the Year 9 girls. We were given a presentation about her life journey, including her mental health struggles, college basketball and her motivation to keep on going when times got difficult. Kassie told us all about her basketball life and how she started at Woodlands Warriors basketball club, and where she is now. Kassie is currently attending University of Central Oklahoma, she has just started at UCO, before this she was attending Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. Kassie also plays for the Frankston Blues in the Youth league squad when she is home from college.

Kassie informed us that you can always follow your dreams no matter what, she battled many struggles throughout her journey and always found a way to get through them. This truly shows what you can do if you really want to do it. Kassie fought for her position in each and every team she has played in and showed her coaches what she was really worth and had to compete against girls older than her and always showed them that she was better. Even though Kassie struggled through state tryouts, she always made it to the last tryout but unfortunately never got selected for the team. Until the day she had the opportunity to try out for the school state team. She competed against the same girls in the state tryouts and had the mindset that it would just turnout the same way and she wouldn’t make the team but this time she worked hard and made the team.

Kassie never really got much court time in her first year of college basketball. One of the games when all the older girls were getting injured or fouled out, her coach turned to her and said “Kassie go out and do your thing” she went out there and absolutely killed it. From this day she has been a main player of this team.

Thank you to all the staff that gave up their time to support the event.
