From next year, there will no longer be a VCAL and a VCE. There will be one new, single, secondary school certificate – the VCE, with the VCE Vocational Major (VM) program embedded within the VCE. The new VCE VM is a two-year senior secondary certificate which has academic structure, assessment and reporting that is aligned with current VCE subjects. It provides students with choices, flexibility, future career preparation and a more formalised, applied learning program.
A vibrant VCE VM Information Evening for prospective students and their parents was held earlier this week via Zoom. Information was shared about all aspects of the VCE VM, VET courses and numerous projects undertaken in the program.
On Tuesday 19 July, Years 1 and 2 celebrated Bastille Day with Mrs Mona Harsan and the Year 11 and 12 VCAL students. The junior students were very excited to be involved in this community activity; participating in a number of French related activities including learning about the history of Bastille Day, dancing, drawing, eating croissants and drinking hot chocolate prepared and served by the Year 11 and 12 students. The Year 11 students also prepared a little French flag for each Year 1 and Year 2 student. The activity was part of an assessment task for the VCE VM students, covering aspects of OH&S, utilising their skills in preparing and handling the food safely and hygienically, making sure that food allergies were considered and by helping to coordinate and supervise the activity as part of their community studies in PDS.
