Achieving Excellence Together
Dear Parents,
On Wednesday students and their families joined us in the school library to fill out their wish lists ready for our Book Week Book Faire. It fantastic to see so many of our students excited about the titles on offer and so passionate about reading. All students will be given the opportunity to purchase from the book shop using the High 5 cards student earn for demonstrating positive behaviours at school. The library will be open to students and families again next Wednesday for a final a chance to complete the wish list before sale begins.
Book Week
At Albanvale Primary School, we value the vital role that Literacy plays in our everyday lives. We strive to instil a love of reading which is evident in our annual Book Week Celebrations. This year, we will be celebrating Book Week from the 22nd to the 28th of August. We will start our celebrations with our Book Character Dress Up Parade and then continue with a range of activities across the week.
Learning POWERS!
In last weeks newsletter we introduced the ideas of the Learning Powers we work to instil in every student at Albanvale Primary School. These Were Determined, Independent and Reflective. Working with our students in Junior School Improvement Team (JSIT) and staff, we have begun defining each of the learning powers to ensure we have the same understanding. The definitions we have agreed on to demonstrate excellence in our learning include being:
Reflective – by thinking about my learning
Determined – through my commitment to continuous improvement
Independent – by taking ownership of my learning
Now that our Learning Powers are defined, all students are working with their teachers to determine how these powers are demonstrated in the classroom and how exactly we can work on getting even better at them.
What are your thoughts on your Learning Powers? Can you think of a way to support your child practice them at home? Share your thoughts with us through our school email: albanvale.ps@education.vic.gov.au
Prep Enrolment 2023
This week we have begun contacting families to confirm enrolments for Prep students in 2023. There are still limited spots available for those interested in joining us next year. We encourage all interested families to get in contact with us about enrolment as soon as possible to confirm their place.
