SOCIAL ANXIETY DISORDER
What is it?
Social anxiety disorder, sometimes referred to as social phobia, is a type of anxiety disorder that causes extreme fear in social settings. People with this disorder have trouble talking to people, meeting new people, and attending social gatherings. They fear being judged or scrutinized by others.
What social anxiety feels like?
Find it difficult to do things when others are watching – you may feel like you're being watched and judged all the time. fear being criticised, avoid eye contact or have low self-esteem. often have symptoms like feeling sick, sweating, trembling or a pounding heartbeat (palpitations)
How does anxiety impact daily life?
Anxiety makes it harder to try new things, to take risks in your work or personal life, or sometimes to even leave your house. Many people with anxiety feel caged in. They see things they want to do in life but their anxiety keeps them from trying. This can lead to loss of income and unfulfilled potential.
