From the Principal

Welcome Back!

We hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable break.  Welcome back for Term 3 which will again provide many highlights for us as a learning community. I am excited to work with you as we continue to provide an outstanding education for our students.

Semester One Reports

End of semester reports were available to parents/carers to view via Compass over the school holiday break.  It is important for parents to read through and discuss the report with their child and devise and implement strategies together to further improve student learning outcomes.

Parent Student Teacher (PST) Conferences for Years 7-12 will be held on Monday 5 September. (see Important Notices for more details)

Professional Learning Day – Monday 11 July

We commenced the term with our Professional Learning Day having sessions with Glen Pearsall on creating and maintaining positive student behaviour, along with a session with Paul Zappa on Respectful Relationships. These sessions were engaging and provided an opportunity for our staff to undertake some more professional learning that continues to improve our work with young people and our school community.

NAIDOC Week - Visit to Kurnai College

It was a great learning and privilege to visit Kurnai College with Mr John Russell, Mr John Simon and seven of our students, on Thursday 21 July, to join their NAIDOC Week Celebration. Kurnai College are certainly a benchmark in their approach to community and their support and work with their indigenous students and the wider reaches of this, are inspiring. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our approach within our school and the wider community. Thank you very much to Mr John Russell for making this visit possible, well supported by such passionate staff including Mrs Lu’isa Fosita, Ms Ally Bailey and Ms Lee-Anne Waters who ran some wonderful activities and displays at our school last week. Our upcoming Assemblies will focus on a further celebration and acknowledgement of NAIDOC Week.

School Review

We have commenced our School Review which concludes on Tuesday 2 August. Thank you to those parents/carers for coming into the school to form a focus group and provide further insights and feedback as part of our Pre-Review Self-Evaluation.  We look forward to sharing the recommendations of the Review Panel with the entire school community, celebrating all of the fantastic achievements of the past four years, whilst continuing our school improvement journey for the next four years.

Inclusive Education (Disability & Inclusion)

As you may be aware, there has been changes in the space of disability and inclusion during 2021 and 2022 as a response to recommendations from the review of the Program for Students with Disability (PSD). This review provided a number of recommendations to ensure schools can meet the needs and maximise the learning of all young people, regardless of location, background or circumstance. This is part of the Department of Education and Training (DET) 5-year rollout, between 2021–2025, as a new funding and support model for students with disability. This includes a new Disability Inclusion Profile (DIP) process to help schools and families identify the strengths, needs and educational adjustments schools can make to assist students with disability. This informs Tier 3 student-level funding allocations.

Thank you to the Inclusion Team , Wellbeing Team, Sub School teams and the teachers who have supported us with the transition in this space!

School Uniform Announcement

Following feedback from students, parents/carers, staff, and exploration and consideration by School Council, we are changing our existing school uniform.

T.

Transition period will end on the final school day in 2024.

All new Year 7 2023 students will commence wearing the new Whole School Uniform (currently Senior Campus uniform).

Uniform Transition Period for current Years 7-10 students

Students in Years 7-10 will have a transition period of just over two school years commencing Monday 15 August 2022 and ending on the final school day in 2024.

Students can continue to wear the 7-10 Campus uniform until final school day in 2024.

During the transition period, 7-10 Campus uniform items cannot be combined with the new Whole School Uniform. (for example, any grey/blue items cannot be worn with white/navy items).

Students must purchase the whole school uniform from the commencement of the 2025 school year.

All uniform items will be available from Monday 15 August and should be purchased from PSW Mornington (1/22 Watt Rd Mornington) to ensure the correct uniform is bought.  We do not take responsibility for incorrect items of uniform purchased elsewhere. Complete school uniform, including school shoes, must be worn throughout the school year, from the first day to the last.  Uniform must have the Frankston High School logo.

If you are unsure, please check with the relevant Year Level Coordinator/Campus Principal who can provide further information around our uniform.
