STRINGFEST

Three students who attended the annual Regional StringFest day had a fantastic time immersed in music making. They formed part of a string orchestra of 54 students from 10 state schools, and got to play and record some wonderful music. Pictured above are a couple of pictures of the whole orchestra and a picture with the clinician, Mr Stephen Chin. The three students should feel very proud of their efforts.

HANDS ON LEARNING

Hands on Learning have had a productive second half of Term 2, even though we have had a lot of rain we still managed to get a large part of our cement storage bays for sand and gravel storage completed.

We have also constructed a fabulous timber table for the HOL hut that is big enough to seat the whole group and has plenty of room for all of us to lunch each day.

Our veggie garden was going along well until the dreaded cabbage moth attacked our crop of broccoli and destroyed every single one!  We have now replanted and are hoping the use of companion planting will give our next crop a chance….

We are now in the process of getting our billy cart ready for the Billy Cart Race day in the last week of Term 2, we have decided to transform an old ride on lawn mower this year, we are having some trouble getting the brake and gear box working independently but we are confident some of our HOL students will have it sorted out soon.

HOL have organised through Graeme’s contacts with Mornington Soccer Club to rehome all of last year’s soccer balls, every year the club gets new balls for the kids and is left with a lot of perfectly good balls that sit in the storage cupboard or are thrown away! So this year they were rehomed. HOL made sure all the balls were pumped up and in good condition ready for donation to Mornington Park Primary School, Mount Eliza Secondary and Mornington Secondary College.
