What's happening in the IRC...
There have been some major changes taking place in the Information Resource Centre at Nossal High School. In order to keep abreast of changing technology and improve efficiency, the IRC has embarked on a major upgrade of its circulation system by installing RFID- Radio Frequency Identification System which allows the patrons not only to self check out resources but also to check their loans and renew their resources. Almost 90 percent of resources have been tagged and by the end of the year we hope to complete this task.
The Library Management System has also been upgraded to Smart Suite Version 2 together with TV4Education V2 which has a number of new features and enables easy access to a very wide range of print, digital and multimedia resources 24/7 on any device from anywhere. In order to train the IRC staff on the new system, we organised a professional development activity on Wednesday 1st August which was attended not only by our IRC staff but also 18 staff from a range of schools as far away as Sunbury.
As a central hub of the school, the IRC has always been a very popular place for students to visit for study and research hence there has always been a request for more space. In order to fulfill this need, the IRC has embarked on creating more seating space by opening up the flexible learning area with comfortable seats.
Another major initiative this year is to increase the membership of the Literature Circle Book Club by inviting members from neighbouring retirement villages as well as from the wider Berwick community as we really value co-operative ventures with the wider community. Our next meeting is on Tuesday 14th August and we hope to see some community members at the school on this day. If you are interested in joining us or would like more information, please contact Mrs Kalpana Lal at the school on 8762 4600 or by emailing communication@nossalhs.vic.edu.au.
All preparations for the 2018 Book Week celebrations are in progress and we hope that like previous years, this year’s celebrations with all the planned activities will be just as exciting and will also help students to further enhance their learning outcomes and also bring the school community together.
