Melton Highway Level Crossing Project

The Melton Highway Level Crossing Removal Project will remove the Melton Highway level crossing by building a new six-lane road bridge over the Sunbury/Bendigo line. Works will commence this month. The project will be completed by late 2018.
The first works you will see will be service proving works, where we check the exact location of utility services. A small drilling rig will arrive on Melton Highway between Overton Lea Boulevard and McCubbin Drive from Monday 23 January for geotechnical investigations and soil testing. There will be some off peak lane closures and speed restrictions on Melton Highway during these works.
Melton Highway will remain open throughout construction, with two lanes retained in each direction. To achieve this, the north side of the highway will be temporarily widened, with all traffic diverted to that side of the road from the middle of 2017.
What to expect
• Work activities will occur during normal construction working hours, 7am – 6pm Monday to Saturday.
• Access to the service road to the north of Melton Highway will remain open. There will be some parking restrictions on the service road during construction.
• There will be some noise, dust and vibration. These impacts will be managed by the project’s environment team.
• Pedestrian and cycling paths will be maintained throughout the project. There will be detours around the work sites to enable construction to progress smoothly and safety.
There will be work crews, machinery and traffic management staff working near the level crossing on Melton Highway, the Melton Highway service road, Victoria Road and Sydenham Road.
