Principal's Comment
Dealing with adversity is a very difficult skill for many adults to manage, let alone children. And right now the world is having to find ways to deal with adversity of all different types. The conversations in the classrooms around these issues are difficult and, at times, upsetting.
All parents and teachers are faced with the challenge of how to educate their children to deal with adversity - most often revolving around playground issues, friendship groups and dealing with disappointment. Jells Park PS is progressively developing a range of stategies based around the KidsMatter framework to support student's mental health and wellbeing, with the aim of nurturing happy and balanced kids.
I was recently very impressed with all the students that participated in the auditions for the Performance Showcase night. We had over 100 students perform, individually or in a group, to fill just 20 slots for the evening program. Congratulations to all the students that auditioned and demonstrated excellence in the performing arts discipline. Well done to the students that were successful, I look forward to watching you perform. But those that have missed out have impressed me with the manner in which they have accepted the disappointment and, I hope, how they have resolved to keep learning and to try again another time. To those students, remember the quote from the legendary basketballer, Michael Jordan:
