SOR ISLAM Workshops

On Monday 25 July our Year 11 and 12 Studies of Religion classes had the opportunity to learn about Islam in a series of workshops presented by  ISRA Australia (Islamic Sciences & Research Academy of Australia) from Sydney.

The team consisting of Heather Fagan, Elif Tor and Deepa Alam provided students with information and workshops on  the Year 12  Studies of Religion syllabus topic areas of Aisha- a significant person in Islam, the Hajj- a significant practice and our ethical topic of the environment. While the  Year 11 engaged in a question and  answer style presentation.

All speakers were excellent and it enabled  the students to learn in depth about Islam from adherents of the tradition.

We thank ISRA for providing our students with this experience. The team are  volunteers of ISRA coming from diverse ethnic backgrounds and are mainly second generation Muslims. While ISRA has a strong educational and research emphasis, it also focuses on community building and cooperation in religious, social, environmental and other major areas for Australia and the global society.
