Message from Mr Huntly
Hello everyone,
After a well earned break, Term 3 has commenced with a very busy schedule of activities. Already over the past 10 days we have had students involved the Albury Eisteddfod, BISSA Athletics, Cochrane Cup 14 Years Rugby League, Year 12 Tertiary Information Evening, Year 11 2017 Careers presentations and Subject Information Evening, 13 Years Country Cup semi-finals, HSC Dance practical Trial exams, and a variety of excursions and guest speakers for Year 9 French, Exploring Early Childhood, Year 11 & 12 Studies of Religion. This is not to mention White Card Training, Combined Wagga High School Touch and Hockey. Wednesday saw Years 7,8,9 & 10 attend presentations by Constable Tim Burke from Wagga Local Area Command on the issues associated with the inappropriate use of Social Media. Our community also celebrated NAIDOC at an assembly on wednesday and Year 7 students engaged in Indigenous games and stories. At the time of publication, the College is hosting a Google Digitech conference for schools around our area. It’s a good thing that everyone was able to catch their breath for a couple of weeks since the end of Term 2. Speaking of catching breath, I wish Rod all the best for his justified extended leave. We look forward to his return in Week 4.
It is important to remember that the opportunities that are provided to our students complement the everyday work of the classroom, and that the organisation and supervision of many of these activities require significant commitment by a number of teaching and support staff. For the work that has already occurred over the past two weeks, and for that which will happen for the coming term, I thank all staff, students and parents for their support in enabling the productive work in and out of the classroom to happen.
The break also provided the Maintenance and Technology teams to oversee some significant improvements around the College to help support Teaching and Learning, as well as the general upkeep of our extensive site. To the members of those teams, who worked tirelessly throughout everyone else’s break, your efforts are greatly appreciated.
The coming 3 weeks are important academically for our Year 10 and 12 students. Year 12 will be sitting their HSC Trial exams, the final piece of their HSC Assessment over the past 12 months. We wish all of our Year 12 students every success over the coming weeks. Year 10 students have commenced the process of selecting subjects for the Preliminary and HSC courses for 2017 & 2018. Over 250 people attended the Subject Information evening on Tuesday night, which along with careers and subject specific presentations over the past and next couple of weeks, will provide students and families with the information and resources necessary to make informed selections for Stage 6 learning. Thanks to Shane Fuller, Alison Sutton and Karen Murray, along with current Year 11 students and KLA Coordinators for their contribution to what was a highly successful evening.
Please keep Mrs Jo-Anne O’Brien, her husband Anthony, and children Elizabeth, Tom and Catherine in our prayers. Jo-Anne’s father, Mr Ray Vallett, passed away earlier this week at the age of 74. Our thoughts and wishes are extended to the O’Brien family at this sad time. We also extend our prayers to the family of Mr Steven Waters, father of Rhyce in Year 11, who passed away on Wednesday morning. Please keep in our hearts and minds Rhyce, his mother Yvette, brother Campbell and extended family and friends, as they mourn the loss of a treasured husband, father and friend.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
