Year 11 Eucharistic Ministers

  • Year 11 Eucharistic Ministers
  • 2017 Commencement Mass
  • P&F Commencement Mass - THIS SATURDAY 18th February

Liturgically this week is one of our biggest weeks of the year. At our assembly on Monday the nine Year 11 Eucharistic Ministers were presented and received their badges from Mr Couani. These men are to be congratulated for putting themselves forward for this position of service. We have travelled with them as they completed their workshop with Father Paul Finucane and other students from Mercy College last year and we celebrated their first commitment to this role at the 2016 Closing Mass. We wish them well as they fulfil this very significant role within our community.

On Tuesday we celebrated our 2017 Commencement Mass. As we were about to begin our opening hymn ‘Ancient Words’ which has in itself become a tradition, I looked around the church and it was indeed an impressive sight. Over 1200 of us joined as one to celebrate the Eucharist and recognise our Catholic Identity and the spiritual aspects of what we identify and hold to be so significant to our community.

Father Paul in his homily launched the Gospel references that will form a framework for each year group. These references will be specific to a year group, so in our year of Gospel Spirituality the students will begin a journey that will allow them to be exposed to the eight Gospel references during their journey at St Pius X College. This will ensure that we stay true to the importance of the Gospel message, and as Father Paul explained, ‘That the message will not stay in the Bible, it will be lived’.   During the next eight editions of the Woodchatta, I will present and unpack each of these Gospel References.

We also will end our week with the P&F Commencement Mass and Social which will begin with Mass at Our Lady of Dolours Parish Church at 5.30 pm and afterwards relaxing with a BBQ/light supper in the College grounds.  A great start to what I know will be a very special year for our community.
