30 SECONDS OF ME: AN AUTOBIOGRAP-HICAL SHORT FILM
The first assessment task in Year 9 BYTES is the autobiographical short film known as 30 Seconds of Me. As a way of developing both creativity and ICT skills, students need to carefully plan, film and then edit their videos, with the aim of producing a piece that reflects them as an individual. Content can include anything from images and video footage of their hobbies, interests, family, pets, and culture, but the best examples employ a theme or storyline to tie the film together, thus providing insight into the student’s unique personality.
This year the students are using WeVideo, an online video-editing platform that works well with their Chromebooks, in particular Google Drive. This makes uploading, editing and sharing videos much easier than previous years. Despite the 30 second time limit, students are able to create detailed, entertaining and insightful videos. Moreover, it’s a great way to start the year with the BYTES teaching getting to know more about their students in the early part of Term 1. No doubt this year’s cohort will produce some impressive films.
