ASIAN-PACIFIC TENNIS LEAGUE
Jessica Brzozowska (Year 12) recently represented Melbourne Cricket Club in the Asia-Pacific Tennis League. This is the highest form of team tennis. Many high profile Australian players have competed in the League this year. Jessica's team made it through to the South Conference which qualified them for the Australian Open Play-offs.
Congratulations Jessica on this wonderful achievement and we wish you continued success!
ANZAC LANDINGS AT GALLIPOLI
Last year, to commemorate the centenary of the Anzac landings at Gallipoli, students state-wide were invited to express what the Anzac spirit meant in a diverse and multicultural Australia?
Anita Voloshin (Year 10) was one of many hundreds to respond to the challenge. Her strategy was to gather primary sources to get an overview of the modern attitude to Anzac. She then combined this with her own perspective. As a student from both a Jewish and Russian heritage, Anita and her family are a part of the great multicultural experiment which Australia embarked upon some decades ago. As an Australian citizen she also has a connection with the Anzac tradition. Her ultimate response to the question is both thoughtful and sophisticated and it is not surprising that she was one of 40 Victorian students who qualified for the Premier’s Spirit of Anzac prize.
Over 2 weeks, Anita and the other winners will visit Greece, Turkey, Belgium and France, taking in battle sites and war museums. This is truly a wonderful opportunity to engage with the world and our unique place in it and we look forward to Anita reporting back to the school at a future General Assembly. Anita is an inspiring example of what each and every student may achieve through the study of History. We commend her initiative and congratulate her warmly.
