Principal News

Welcome back to school for Term 4. Can you believe it is term 4 already? As we head into the last term of the year we ask ourselves:

  • What can we accomplish in the next 8 weeks,  31 school days, 186 periods of time?
  • What teaching and learning can occur? What is important?
  • Teachers and students have set clear goals for Term 4. It is important that all students are at school, on time and ready to learn.

Canada Study Tour

I have recently returned from a 16 day Study Tour of Canada.  It was a busy and exciting adventure, learning about the similarities and differences between the Victorian and Canadian Education systems.  A team of 10 Principals learnt from experts in the field how we can expand our support of student achievement, leadership in education, professional practice and fostering expertise, sustaining change in this ever changing environment, equity for all and well being.

The places we visited and learnt from were:

Ontario Ministry of Education

Ontario College of Teachers (OCT)

Ontario Principals Council (OPC)

Dinner with Mary-Jean Gallagher (educational consultant)

Alberta Teachers Association Council for School Leadership

Calgary Board of Education

Delta School District Vancouver, British Columbia Province

Niagara Catholic District School Board

We visited 7 schools (across 3 Provinces) to explore and share best practice ideas:

Niagara (Ontario):  Notre Dame Catholic Elementary, St Michael Catholic Elementary and Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Elementary.

Calgary (Alberta):  Chief Justice Milvain Primary School.

Vancover (British Columbia):  Holly Elementary, Port Giochon Elementary and Delta Secondary.

I would like to thank School Council for endorsement and the staff of CSPS for their support; especially Sally Herbert who was Acting Principal and Karen Halket who was Acting Assistant Principal in my absence.

I cannot wait to put into action what I have learnt, to further expand teaching and learning in every classroom; to ensure that CSPS continues to thrive.

Whole School transition program

Term 4 marks the beginning of some important thinking, planning and organisation for the CSPS Transition processes.  Step Up (pre foundation), Step Through (moving between year levels/schools) and  Step Out (Yr 6 to Secondary School). The transition program is an ongoing approach which students participate throughout the year. Buddy activities are an example of this.

Transition is targeted at ensuring all students are confident moving through the school years.  Activities are planned to provide an introduction to a school classroom environment and classroom routines and to explore literacy and numeracy based activities.

Dates to remember are:

  • Week 5 - 71019: Step Up - 2020 Foundation Students
  • Week 6 - 121019: Step -Through - Foundation to Year 6
  • Week 7 - 201019: Step Up - 2020 Foundation Students
  • Week 8 - 261019: Step-Through - Foundation to Year 6
  • Week 10 - 101219: Step-Through - Foundation to Year 5 and Year 6 State Wide Transition program - visit to 2020 Secondary Colleges

2020 Foundation students will also be attending an EYE visit where they are  interviewed one on one with a staff member throughout November.

Any questions about transition please contact Mrs Karen Halket.

Child Safe Standards

Standard 7: Strategies to promote child participation and empowerment

Having a network of people that you trust is an essential component of child safe.

During Term 4 our students will participate in a child safe workshop designed to encourage them to think about who should be included in their network of trusted people.   These workshops will be led by our school social worker and implemented across all levels of the school.

Picking up students early from excursions & events

We are requesting ALL students will leave from school and return back to school as a class/team for excursions and events.  This is for attendance and safety purposes of our students.  If you intend to take your child from the venue you must seek prior approval from the Principal. Please send an email to cranbourne.south.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au with your child's name, class and excursion or event name 5 days prior to the excursion or event with a request to take your child home directly from the venue. These can then be included with the organisation of the day and the teacher in charge of the event is aware before the day.
