St Edward's has received Sporting Schools Funding over the last 4-5 years allowing the students to participate in sport skills sessions taught by professional coaches. This term the Infants will participate in hockey skills sessions and the Primary will participate in netball skills sessions. For more information on how the sporting schools funding works, please feel free to visit their website https://www.sportaus.gov.au/schools
Here are some action shots of our Year 2 students enjoying their hockey skills for sport this week.
Last Thursday and Friday we had a number of students travel to Bathurst to trial for the Polding Trials for various sports. Congratulations to Thomas Mallon & Riley Daly our Open Boys in the Rugby League team who made the possible and probables. A massive congratulations to Tom who made it in the Polding Team and will participate in the NSWPSSA Trials held late June.
A note went home yesterday to all Primary aged students to obtain an expression of interest for those students who will be available in the July school holidays to play in the National Primary Games.
The National Primary Games is an inclusive festival of sport which includes 6 different codes for children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 catering for teams of all standards over the weekend of 10th and 11th July (this is in the mid-year school holidays). St Edward’s is hoping to enter teams in Rugby League, Netball, Soccer and possible Gymnastics for students who are already participating in Gymnastics at a competitive level.
The festival will be held in Tamworth and our teams will compete against teams as far north as the Sunshine Coast and South to the ACT. The NPG values sportsmanship and inclusivity being the focus of the weekend. The Macquarie Bank Spirit of the Games Award will be presented to a team who best represents this attitude within each of the sports. All teams will play competitive games and every team will participate in a final, no matter their placing.
Costing is yet to be decided as it is a team nomination fee, depending on how many students we have playing/ respond to this expressions of interest will determine the cost.
We are looking for expressions of interest from you for your child to see if we will have enough children to make a team and enter the competition. We would also be looking for coaches for the teams. If we have enough students to make a team and register, the coaches of the teams will then be in charge of arranging training times and the running of the team on the day. I will register teams and collect money from individual players.
If your child is interested, please return the note that was sent home to Mrs Gippel by Wednesday 12th May. Remember this is only an expression of interest.
