Principal

Thursday 1st April

Dear families,

We have arrived at the end of Term 1.  I would like to thank our school community for their continued support and understanding for what has been another demanding term.  We have successfully welcomed 23 new Foundation students and have seen the implementation of the Tutor Learning Initiative taking shape to support our students after the disruption of last year.

Another initiative that has started this term has been the Breakfast Club.  This takes place on Monday and Thursday mornings in the greenspace.  Thanks to our Chaplain, Hollie Boniface, for her coordination and to our parent helper volunteers.  We look forward to this continuing next term and thank Foodbank Victoria for their incredible support.  Each class has been enjoying the fruit bowl when needing some healthy snacks during class.

I hope all our families enjoy Easter and the holiday break spending quality time with family and friends and get a chance to switch off and relax.  This break is an opportunity for our students to have a rest as we have noticed more unsettled behaviour as the term has gone on.  We are looking forward to less disruption next term.

Chess Champions

Last week we had some students represent our school in a chess tournament.  Overall, we came 2nd behind Glen Waverley PS and did ourselves proud.

Thanks to Ian Litterbach, Jonathan Neilson and Rosie Luyken for transporting and supporting our students.

Congratulations to:

  • Ben 56J who won 5 out of 7 games.  This earned Ben a distinction and the silver medal in the 5/6 category.
  • Syd 56J, Nate 56K, Ethan 56J and Nicko 56J who each received a credit for their efforts
  • Alice 56J and Zanna 34D each received a credit and a bronze medal in their categories.
  • Archie 34M who won 3 out of 7 games.

RCH Good Friday Appeal

Yesterday students enjoyed being out of uniform and having the opportunity to purchase a cupcake to support Isabella raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital.  We raised over $500 which is a wonderful effort.

Thanks to the families that provided the cupcakes, there was plenty of excitement and long queues as the students waited to get one or two or three.

Congratulations

Yesterday we drew our Easter Raffle.  Thanks to the community for the donations and to Hayley and Mel for putting the prizes together.

We had Kieran, dressed as the Easter Bunny, to assist with the drawing of the winning tickets.

1st prize went to Harper in FK

2nd prize went to Matthew in 12RM

3rd prize went to Rose in 34D

Bunnings BBQ fundraiser

Last Sunday, we had some beautiful weather to entice people to enjoy a sausage at the Fountain Gate Bunnings in Narre Warren.  Thanks so much to our parent, student and staff volunteers for their time and effort.  Also, to the families who donated some soft drinks, serviettes, bread and eskies.

A special mention to Michelle Mudge and Kate Keys for their time, organisation and coordination.  It was short notice but well worth it.

Good luck to Justin

Next term Justin Benne will be taking some long service leave.  This is an exciting time for him and his family as they travel our beautiful country. Our staff enjoyed a morning tea yesterday where we presented Justin with a ‘Road Trip Survival Guide’ – he is all set!! We wish the Benne family safe travels.

Menzies Creek Preschool Family Fun Day! Save the date

The preschool team are looking to organise a family fun day at the preschool on Sunday 23rd May from 10 am to 1pm. The purpose of the event is to bring together families from Menzies Creek Primary School, Preschool and the broader community to enjoy some fun activities together and see what the preschool has to offer.

The preschool will be set up with loads of free play experiences that promote the preschool program and philosophy. The preschool educators will be there to catch up with families. We are hoping to reach out to families looking to enrol their child in preschool in 2022 or beyond but just as importantly we want our community families to come together for a fun day.

If you would like to get involved with helping at this event (such as have face painting skills, or know of a kid’s activities business) please contact the preschool team or Kate in the office.

The Preschool is a vital part of our school’s community and operates out of the Menzies Creek Community Hall.  If you know of any families looking to enrol please encourage them to visit our website and/or organise a visit as we do have some availability.

Have a safe and wonderful holiday.  We look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday, April 19.

Regards,

Dale McInerney
