From Our School Leaders - Will, Ella, Chase, Monique

This term our School Leaders, Year 5 and 6, will be working together to umpire different games during lunch.  This allows us to show our leadership skills, as well as teaching the younger years the correct rules for different games.  Each of the leader referees have been given their own whistle, and high-vis vest to wear while refereeing games.  We are all very excited for this!!

Below are our game rules...

  Soccer Rules

  • Must have a ref to play.
  • If the ball goes out by a team it is the opposite team’s throw in from where it went out.
  • If the ball goes out by your team behind your goal it is a corner kick for the other team.
  • Ref chooses teams.
  • The goalie can’t come out too far or it is a handball.
  • If someone trips someone on purpose it is a penalty for that person and the ball is given to the other team, which then means it is a free kick from where it happened.
  • If you argue with the ref you will not play for the rest of the day.
  • To start the game you kick off from the middle.
  • When the ref is choosing the teams kids stand in a line and you point out evenly.
  • If you touch the ball with one or two hands it is a penalty for the other team which means they get the ball.
  • If one team scores a goal it’s the other team’s middle kick.

Handball Rules

  • On the big court, there must be a referee, except in the morning, or you can’t play there.
  • If the referee says you’re out, you must take it out to make the game fair and enjoyable.
  • If the ball hits twice or more in your square you are out and if you hit the ball and it does not bounce once in your square you are out.
  • The types of hits that are allowed are: Slapshots (When you hit the ball it makes a slap sound), normal shots, low shots, reachable high shots and through the legs shots.
  • If two balls go under the fence the game is done for that day but may continue the next day.
  • No breakfast serves, Eveready or rebounds are allowed to be played.
  • Infants are only allowed to play handball with primary on Monday and Tuesday.
  • If the person in King/Ace does an improper serve, they are out.
  • If the ball is too high for people to reach, play it on ( the referee has to agree).
  • People in the line have to be on the dirt not on the cement when you are in the         line because you could interfere with the people in a square.
  • Poisoning is NOT allowed in any circumstance.
  • Running to the Handball squares is not allowed; if you do you MUST go to the end of the line.
  • All calls by the referee are final.

Here is our referee roster, filled with our student leader volunteers.
